Actually, after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the people of Iran experienced MASSIVE improvements in living standards as evidenced by their Human Development Index, which now places Iran in the “highly developed” category of nations.
Furthermore, Iran has strong science programs. In fact it is a world leader in stem cell research and nanotech too.
