  Even at his best, Maher is only half right. Tanks rumbling down the street is the hallmark appearance of a police state, but having a person stripped of his constitutional rights at the moment of arrest is the actuality of a police state. Bill is alright with totalitarianism as long as it doesn’t look like totalitarianism.

  She was a world leader with her head on straight. Not too many of those left. I would suggest reading some of her speeches as recorded in the Imprimis archives. They are more inspiring than socialist protesters doing their best Westboro Baptist impression at a funeral.

  She’s been on the committee 20 years! (dear God, I was gearing up for first grade back then) Cruz should propose a term limits bill. Name it the “Feinstein’s Twenty Years Too Many Act.”

  I’m in favor of getting rid of speed limits, both max and min. In that same libertarian spirit, I don’ think she did anything wrong. She was driving the speed she wanted to in the lane she wanted to drive in. It was the officer who initiated the use of force against her. So many people here want to punish her for being an inconvenience, not for doing anything harmful to anyone.

  I read Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes, and that was the first time I heard the argument that the lawmakers should not be subject to the law. Pissed me off. Hobbes was also a militant monarchist who believed that self-government was impossible. This mind set is not new – there have always been people who wish to rule over others and feel that there should be no rules for themselves. Stand and fight, always.
