PLEASE everyone note what the victim did……..his actions hint at him having a possible law enforcement background…… he stayed calm, kept his weapon in tight, didnt flaunt the situation, and above all on the arrival of the uniformed officers IMMEDIATELY placed his weapon on the ground and met the officers in an unarmed, calm and concise manner…

Hattiesburg residents Tamika Mills and Pearnell Roberts discovered the two officers who had been shot. The pair got out to check on the officers and called 911.

“Never in my life have I experienced or seen anything like this except on TV and to be in the midst of it, it’s shocking and heartbreaking,” Mills said. “As we were coming down Fourth Street, we noticed a bunch of lights. As we came on through, (Roberts) told me to turn around because she saw somebody laying on the ground.

“So I backed up. That’s when we noticed the officer was down. We just saw that one, but in the course of me being on the phone with 911, I turned and I saw another officer across the street rolling on the ground. (Roberts) ran across the street to check on him. He wasn’t all the way alert but he asked her, ‘Am I dying? I know I’m dying. Just hand me my walkie-talkie.’ ”

It marked the first time a Hattiesburg police officer had been killed in the line of duty since Jackie Dole Sherrill was shot on New Year’s Eve in 1984.

the correct wording that should have been used is…….

    A SUCCESSFUL COUNTER-TERRORISM (also called anti-terrorism) ACHIEVEMENT…….leads to terrorists demise….

the shooters pulled up to the event wearing “protective gear” and carrying “assault riffles” and opened fire immediately after getting out of their vehicle. They were shot by a traffic officer with a pistol, police said…….

an officer who was vigilant and trained properly in his duties……..you SIR deserve a medal of valor and all the accolades coming your way……….

monk….thanks for response……Yea that is one thing the courts have never ever been able to give a definite answer to….the “time frame” for the need or not for a warrant on an immidiacy case …….and naturally the defense is gonna claim any thing they can…… i am sure the scene was HOT the whole time and with no definite location to secure and the officers acting immediately on tips from witnesses on the scene……hopefully the courts will weigh the situation in favor of the officers (state)….

  • [13] May 3, 2015 at 7:37pm

monk….you are right a warrant is needed….to enter a house unless given permission by the owner……BUT….and this is a big but…..and i dont know the time frame of how long this search went on for, but hot pursuit also mite come into play where it would be ruled as exigent circumstances for entry and safety……
