They are called Psychiatric Wards or Institutions now, not asylums. The asylums were basically run like a Roman prison where the ‘sick souls’ were experimented on and basically tortured in every way imaginable. As bad as psych wards are today, they pale by far in comparison to the Dr.Moreau type of experimentation which was commonplace in the asylums. The psych wards of today are run a bit more differently, though abuse can and does certainly still occur. Typically they require one to be checked in by themselves, voluntarily, or by a family member or occasionally a police officer if they are deemed a threat to themselves or others.
Most of these asylums look to be in Upstate NY. They let most of the less harmful to society ‘souls’ loose on the streets to fend for themselves.
They walk the streets today in most cases. Many have been elected into democratic politician positions. The rest just vote multiple times for democrats at each election. It's the way they roll!
In my genealogical research, I’ve stumbled across names who were placed in facilities such as this. Many times, these individuals were categorized as “idiotic”, and their conditions ranged from the mentally disabled (Down Syndrome) to the physically disabled (blind, deaf, lame, etc.) and had many ranges of severity.
My small hometown had a large facility which operated in the 1800′s and early 1900′s and was called the Alms House. Anyone who didn’t have someone to care for them or was unable to care for themselves due to a disability would live there. They had their own working farm and many volunteers. Every January the local newspaper would publish their financial records, assets, and donations since it solely ran on charity (shocking by today’s standards). Churches and individuals donated money, livestock, canned goods, clothing and much much more. I found it interesting to read how these facilities operated before government funding. I have no idea how these individuals were treated, though.
My guess is that when new treatments became available most were successfully treated and the rest may have been moved to a more modern facility. It is only a guess though. I agree it is a very beautiful building.
Also, I realize in the time period that this asylum was being used electro convulsive therapy was an inhumane treatment but, it is still used today to treat depression if other treatments have failed. Although now days the patient is put to sleep while it's being administered but, it has successfully treated many people; it basically resets the brain which causes the serotonin levels to return to normal.

Yes Please….. remove HER. Division among the true America, this Land, this Love, this Hope, how do we keep it?
I Pray….. I Beg…. I Plead…. we are good, we have Love, we do Help. but we are broken. Needing the light to shine, a ray of hope, to restore that which we have lost, guide us through your grace, that we may again “see” where you need us to be, what you need us to do, to restore her to her place, high above ,as the beacon you so graciously gave to us at our birth. Remind us again, what it is we need to see, hear, give, love, and live, to understand how to get back on that guiding light, shinning that ray of hope….for all. Awaken us, help us to understand, that we may see, and then fix it.

Nope-that's capitalism. It 's their business and that's their rules. Don't agree-don't do business there.
Oh really? Wasn’t it GoFundMe that allowed for almost a million dollars to be raised for the owners of Memories Pizza?
They just need to change the language in the fund raising request on the website. It just needs to be changed to, "All funds will go to benefit the families of the officers, while their spouses and parents are being suspended without pay. This is not a legal fund and will not go to the officers directly."
The families can then spend the money however they need to.
That sounds like Discrimination to me refusing service. I wonder if they bake Gay Wedding Cakes?
They are lucky they aren't running a bakery or they would be out of business.
I second that....I will never go fund me anything.
So "Go Fund Me" has already convicted the police officers?
What about Glenn's charity website ?
Maybe we should start a conservative equivalent?
I'll bet if GFM had site collecting funds for the defense of a child molester, accused terrorist or any other ne'er-do-well everyone's opinion would be the exact opposite. It's a smart move by GFM to not get involved in fund raising or those charged in crimes. God forbid the money raised get's some one off that actually did commit a crime.
If it is for a cause they don't believe in, please visit their "GoF--- Yourself" site.
Time to close down this now political site and no longer has a purpose. Start up another site that is open to everyone and not just who the site owners decide. Don't want foul language or vulgar pictures, or nasty remarks, just a site that actually does good to everyone!
Go fund me is not the only fundraising site. Actually they could start their own fundraising site and I can bet it will raise lots of money. Meanwhile, write the potus and ask him to keep his racist thoughts and opinions on this case until after the trial.
Hey, SOMEONE has to be Satan's advocate. He's only doing his job.

Ok….so now…..all persons in custody of the Police, should have to put on the padded straight jackets, so they won’t hurt their poor selves or try and maim themselves. Ive seen video of those dumb you know whats who do these crazy things trying to get out of being arrested. Haven’t ya’ll seen the show “Cop’s” (bad boy’s bad boy’s what ya gonna do) I am tired of the division people are making up in their heads, or listening to stupid politicians telling them that this is so.

I had just said that to my Husband this evening, saying how sad it would be if that young man had done something to himself to cause all this mayhem. It is despicable if this rumor is true. Freddie Gray…..i am speaking to your soul…….i hope your seeing all this mayhem you’ve caused, what are you going to do about it, Fix this, you started it.
I'm sure his soul can't hear you, and you realize even if he did self inflict there are hundreds that die in police custody every year due to lack of medical attention. Honestly you guys are so narrow to really see that people aren't rioting because of one person. This has been a frustration in poor communities for a long time. This has always been a problem. While I don't support destruction it's about time someone changes something.
