MSNBC Co-Host Refuses to ‘Lie’ to His Children and Let Them Believe Santa Claus Is Real
December 27, 2012 at 2:29pm
Some families tell their children there is someone out there who:
- is very good
- can see them, where ever they go
- who knows when they’ve been good or bad
- who loves them and wants to shower them with good things
Some families tell their children this being is Santa. In our family we tell our children that this is God. That’s why I don’t want to lie to my children about Santa – why point them to the pale, secular imitation, when I can point them to the real deal, and give God the glory He deserves.
I don’t lecture other families about this, but find it hard to understand how lying to kids can be positioned as the conservative Christian approach, and telling your kids the truth is the secular liberal thing. That’s backwards folks.
We can still spark imagination while telling our children the truth – God is amazingly creative, and completely real. His story is seemingly unbelievable (God became a man and died?!?) and yet completely true. So truth and creativity do go hand in hand, because they find their origins in Him.

Like Teresaj I don’t lecture other families about this, but I find it hard to understand how Meredith Jessup can think lying to kids is the conservative approach, while telling your kids the truth is the liberal thing. You’ve got that backwards.
