Here’s Why You Might Want to Turn Off the Volume If You’re Hopping on to Facebook at Work

theblaze already does this with some articles starting embedded video automatically and the spreecast thing embedded in articles that starts automatically also… so have to keep the volume down all the time anyway!
NASA Orders All Light Bulbs on Space Station Changed — But You’ll Never Guess Why
December 6, 2012 at 3:19pm
25g at launch is not realistic, even for just a cargo rocket. nor is 14# for a bulb. The bulbs will be LEDs which will not require a glass tube, so more likely they will go with lighter and more robust plastic. so maybe a few ounces per light would be more realistic. the harder part is they are going to have be tested for outgassing and flamability and probably a host of other things before being allowed on board. i would guess most of the cost is going to the studies to see if they actual do what is claimed, it must cost a bunch to have test subjects live in the simulates station just to see if they get more sleep at night!
Chick-Fil-A Exec Arrested for Trying to Bring gun Through Airport Security
December 6, 2012 at 7:58am
the no-gun zone shouldn’t start until after the checkpoint… otherwise why don’t they check you at the front doors, or at the parking lot entrance?? If they are carrying legally they should be turned around and told to repack the gun in their checked luggage properly or leave it home.

Did Bing Satellite Map Reveal a Secret SEAL Team 6 Training Facility? See for Yourself
October 10, 2012 at 10:45am
Well, lets think about this a bit… if the map services have to blur everything that any government wants hidden then they have to have locations and sizes of all the things that have to be blurred. How long would it take for that database to be leaked or stolen for use in finding all those secret places all around the world? And who has access to the unblurred images? They have to come down to somewhere from the satellites and survey planes and street level image collectors, then have to be stored, and sent to the mapping services, then stitched together, then quality checked (though apple seems to have skipped this step), then blurred before going public… lots of hands to pass through and copies of clear images that could also be leaked or stolen.

sqa33 – a ddos attack takes more than a server reboot to stop. while crashing the server may be a side effect the real problem is that the attackers clog the internet connection to the site preventing stuff from getting in or out. the only defenses are either stopping the attacking machines, which would often mean taking down a hacker’s botnet, or blocking the ip’s of all the attacking machines at a point where there is enough bandwidth to handle the attack… that one means that major internet backbone providers must cooperate to block the incoming data so there is enough bandwidth left for the site to still operate.
