The Foreign Emergency Support Team (FEST) has a very specific mission which entails providing tactical support to our diplomatic personnel overseas in the event of an emergency. They do not need to be told what to do, they only need to be told where to go. It is their mission, just as the Secret Service’s mission is to intervene to save the President, to respond to overseas emergencies. Someone ordered them NOT to respond. The fact that the situation was dangerous is NOT a reason for them not to respond, the danger factor is a significant component of their job description just as it is with the Secret Service. Instead of answering the burning question “Who told FEST to stand down?” the President, again, returned to the lie that Congressional budget cuts were to blame for this, despite his own State Department representative (Dep. Assistant Secretary Charlene Lamb, 10/10/12) unequivocally stating that the budget had NOTHING to do with this. This is an affront & a disgrace to the sacrifice of the four men in Benghazi who died heroically for our flag.

The dignity of the office has been shattered & if this makes you want to “Blame Bush” you are beyond help. I have my own issues with many of the decisions of the Republican Party & former President Bush, but he is not the President now & was not the one who decided to assault the honor of the dedicated individuals who would proudly die in service to the office of the President of the United States

  • The Undignified Presidency:

While serving as a special agent with the Secret Service I proudly placed myself in danger many times to allow three Presidents to execute their duties free from intimidation. Neither I nor any agent I worked with expected any accolades for this. It was our duty & we fulfilled it, end of story.

Having stated that, the President has a duty as well. He has a duty to run the country in a dignified manner worthy of the office. His history of blame is clear, but this is a trait common to many Presidents. It is his history of placing blame on those who are willing to sacrifice their lives for him that is undignified & can no longer be tolerated.

When the politics of the sequester took an unexpected turn & backfired on the President, he attempted to blame the Secret Service for his decision to shut down the White House to public tours. I worked there, I saw the process. I does not work that way. The Secret Service does not make unilateral decisions & does not even control who is granted access, they only ensure those vetted by the White House meet security standards. Callously placing blame on an apolitical agency & the dedicated men & women who place themselves at great risk to serve you, is ethically incomprehensible.

Worse, are the President’s intentionally misleading & increasingly undignified statements on Benghazi. Those men were left to die & this is not in dispute; The only question is, “Why?”…

  • I beg to differ. DIABETIC PEOPLE would get hurt if guns shot chocolate….too much sugar.

  • Yes I read about the Beslan Massacre a couple of years ago, and watched videos. This does need to meet with the Mainstream to illustrate the mentality of terrorists.

  • Chris Matthews is a kook.
