Nanny-State Madness: Woman Faces Jail Over Veggie Garden
July 10, 2011 at 7:27am
Look, I am a gardner, but when you purchase a home in a neighborhood there are zone laws.
These laws can be about animals, fences, and even children ( as in an over 50 community).
My point is that stop responding with “bumper sticker” mentality comments and think.
If this woman for family has a backyard of course that would be preferable to the front. If her
neighbors don’e wish to see these veggie beds, the woman should consider either building a fence
or installing a hedge. That would solve both problems.
A neighbor recently was building a small building on his property and he was nice enough to
ask adjacent property owners their opinions or concerns. Now I realize that a building is a permanent
structure while a garden is not, but consideration should be made for neighbors. I am sure that
this article wouldn’t have made the news if the lady had put an above ground pool in her front yard, or an outhouse. It is only because it is vegatables and I do have to say they are very well done beds and neat, but she should have checked with the zoning laws first!
