You can sit there and call me every name in the book. You live in fear of something that will never happen to most of you. And you totally misunderstand your own Constitution. NO ONE IS COMING FOR YOUR GUNS. Just limiting access. You have armed forces and that is the MILITIA the Constitution references. I am not saying gun laws work 100% of the time but the fact is that they work. And the US is the only developed nation that seems too scared or too stupid to get that.

You can tell me the numbers are crap. They are not. So go on collecting guns and living in fear. You have no idea how ridiculous and backwards you all seem to the rest of the world.

You can one-off stories all day.The simple fact is that gun control works. Not perfect but it works. And stop selling the garbage that Obama is trying to take ALL your guns.Because he isn’t.He’s trying to limit WHAT you can buy.All the evidence proves it out.The US is the ONLY developed country without weapons bans.

You all act like your society is under constant and perpetual threat. It isn’t.There are no terrorists at your door. Your government is NOT coming to get you.Crime happens but not as much as you and the media make it out to be.Stop acting scared of everything. The media plays up all the craziness so it seems like anarchy but let’s face it, unless you live in slums where crime is significantly higher, you really are not under this level of threat. This is supposed to be a civilized society. And yes, there are bad people around. But they aren’t breaking into all your houses every day. They aren’t shooting up the local Denny’s every Saturday. You are all convinced that the world is ready to take you down. It isn’t.

US Deaths in Afghanistan in 2012: 2000 – a war zone
USA: 9 guns deaths per 100K citizens
Canada: < 1 gun death per 100K citizens
Same tv shows, same movies, same games. Why?Because we have those limits in place.Canadians own rifles and hand guns. But we don't act like something is going to happen every two seconds. We don't live in fear of what is most unlikely. And we don't feel the need to be armed to the teeth against what 'might' happen.

It is really sad to see such a bunch of rabid ‘shoot first, ask questions later’ people on here. I’d like to know if the guy was armed. If not, why would he not apprehend instead of killing. Some facts before you make this guy a hero would be nice.

NHWINTER – What does what Canada spent matter to your debt? We spent lots on Afghanistan. You may remember Canadian troops took over care of Khanduhar for several years.

To the many who said there are workable solutions. Workable means bi partisan and means right and left vote together, House and Senate. Proposals are everywhere. Nothing is going to work unless both sides work together. That isn’t Obama’s fault. It is just the GOP’s fault and it isn’t just the Dems fault. It’s both sides fault. You want solutions? Ask your GOP reps to work with the Dems instead of blaming Obama and the Dems til the cows come home.

SEEDS12 – I have never used a food stamp and never collected unemployment in my life. I have worked my whole life. So stuff your attitude that Libs are lazy. Half your country isn’t lazy – there are lots of lazy folks on the right and left. Just far fewer than the politicos would like you to believe.

And sorry to burst your Reagan bubble folks. He raised taxes a lot if you check his record. Instead of listening to the media drivel from wither side, try researching some facts. The news orgs on the right and left are corrupt and not looking out for you. Journalism – the presentation of facts without bias, is almost impossible to find but can be done.

  • February 13, 2013 at 4:47pm

How many times can you ‘purportedly’ and be taken seriously. Why not get the facts before writing the story…

  • February 12, 2013 at 1:26pm

Should the President mention every single US serviceman/woman who dies? If so, when is he supposed to lead. He either mentions all or none. Too many dead heroes. Easy to be outraged over one or two but where is the line.

  • February 12, 2013 at 10:51am

If you want to be informed and make proper decisions on what the truth really is, you cannot stick to a single source, particularly if that source has a clear bias. It’s not just this site, or FoxNews but also MSNBC, CNN. Most of what they consider journalism is simply punditry. You need multiple sources from multiple places to get a clear view.
And don’t be afraid to look outside the US. You get a different perspective when you are looking at it from the outside. CBC is Canada tends to do the best journalism. BBC. The major US networks. Just don’t stick to a side when getting information. For me it’s all about being able to decide what’s closest to the truth.
Obviously that would take a lot of time for every news story. Do it for the stories that matter most. And when someone says crazy things, question it. When people talk about Obama as tyrant or coming for all your guns, that’s extreme. Question it. We live in a completely disfunctional society and the media has been corrupted. Finding reality is difficult since there is so much bias. Journalism is supposed to be about stepping back, giving information without bias. That is very difficult to find. The media is supposed to be on our side. That doesn’t happen any more.

  • February 11, 2013 at 11:46am

A completely different perspective does not mean the right perspective. Sad that such misinformation and outright lies get spread by this man. I wonder of anyone realizes how much money this man makes out of whipping people into a frenzy over craziness.

I miss the days when the right, Republicans, actually wanted to help the country. The days when parties worked together for the greater good. Where the balance between conservative values and social needs existed. Now we have a bunch of mouthpieces on both sides spouting lies and living in the blind world of punditry. That anyone would support this man’s insanity when you are simply making a very rich man richer, is beyond me.

It would be nice if the GOP had some policies that appealed to Hispanics instead of finding ‘the right words to say’ to convince them they should support them. Okay, someone say ‘amnesty’ and watch the screaming and crying begin at FoxNews headquarters!

I wish all you so-called Christians would follow in your Lord and Saviour’s footsteps. Loving and accepting of all. Instead you worship Him in word only but you live to hate those you don’t understand.

And if any of you think Jesus said anything about gays, you’re in the wrong testament folks. Follow Jesus’ life and teachings or stop pretending you are Christians. You are not.

So many of you are ridiculous. Many countries, including Israel have female combat troops. They have to be able to handle it, just like men. And for those that want that opportunity, why do you care? If you think allowing women in combat means ANYONE can be on the front lines, you’re an idiot. Training, ability, temperment. Just like anyone else. Grow up. You all sound like leftovers from the 1950′s.

If people understood we need to change and were willing to become the innovators the jobs will be there. The real problem is the attitude that because someone is worse, we shouldn’t do anything at all. How do we lead by doing nothing? Makes no sense.

Sad that so many that profess to protect the Constitution have decided that they know what was meant. This whole debate is a twisting of what is really going on. The gun manufacturers and NRA want their money and power to continue to grow. Every developed country has restrictions on weapons allowed and registration procedures. Those countries all have massively smaller gun deaths per capita than the US. That is a fact, not some twisted statistics.

That all of you, including armed forces members don’t seem to understand that armed militia you so frequently refer is not you as civilians but the very armed forces you came from. How do you not get that?

Do you think Obama has mind control over the army and he’s trying to overrun the country? Do you think the generals would let him ‘take over’. Do you seriously not believe Obama has the best interests of America at heart whether you agree or disagree with his policies?

Stop listening to the Beck’s and Limbaugh’s whose sole job it is to make money and stir up the masses. Try reading information from all over, in and out of the US so you have a balanced view. Understand what and why Obama(and a majority of your fellow citizens) want these restrictions and how it works in other countries. Otherwise you are just reacting to pundits and propaganda. There is no fair media anymore on the right or left. It is up to you to decipher what is real. Listening to the rhetoric on either side will never give you an infor

Sadly he’s wrong. Gun laws work everywhere. The ones you have are watered down and useless because of lobbying.

USA 9 gun deaths per 100K citizens
Same games, movies and tv shows as:
Canada: < 1 gun death per 100K citizens

A perfectly reasonable and up right ciizen can snap. Or develop mental health issues. If they don't have access to automatic weapons, they can't use them. No other developed nation ignores this reality, just the US. And why?

And don't get me wrong, having a hand gun or rifle is fine and better for your home and hunting. And I know none of this is perfect and won't prevent everything. But stats don't lie. Having this weapons so readily available IS the issue. You can't expalin away reality. You can just ignore it, which is exactly what is happening here.

You are being manipulated to think your rights are at risk. They are not. This is about money and power. The NRA and gun manufacturers don't want to lose this cash cow. And they spend millions getting laws watered down so they can have you continue to feed their pockets with guns you don't need and have no use for. And those watered down laws are what is not working.

I am not a rabid Obama supporter. I don't like much of what he's done. The media is corrupt on both sides, right and left. As is Congress. Just look outside the US and you can see that automatic weapons bans work.

You all are brilliantly insane. The gun death rate in every developed country (all having gun laws but the US) is massively lower (as in 9 gun deaths in the US per 100K, < 1 gun death per 100 K in Canada with same games, tv shows and movies).

This isn't about Japan's culture. It's that you all believe a) Obama is coming after ALL your guns – he's not and b) that nothing needs to change. You are all okay with all the killings and think the answer is more guns. Don't know if you noticed that isn't working.

So when China attacks Japan they should defend with handguns? What is this 1932?

  • January 27, 2013 at 1:14pm

Wow, glad to see you are capable of a cognizant argument.

  • January 27, 2013 at 12:34am

This is ridiculous. Here’s some real stats:

USA: 9 gun deaths per 100K citizens
Canada has the same games, tv shows and movies but has gun controls.
Canada: <1 gun death per 100K citizens

Why do you suppose that is?

The US has radically more gun deaths then any other developed nation. Hmmm, how is that possible?

For clarity, no one is trying to take away all your guns. Just the semi and fully-automatic weapons. You don't need those for protection or hunting so why is this a big deal?

Gun manufacturers and weapons dealers have convinced you your 'constitutional rights' are being abused. That's bull. This is about money and power. For them. You are being convinced otherwise.

And know my points will be ignored and flamed on. You have no idea how the US looks to the rest of the world on this.

Way to mix together two different issues. And yes, McCarthy is an idiot. But keep the two stories apart. Women in the military is one thing. Assault weapon ban is another.

There’s nothing in the gun control debate about women and assault weapons. And McCarthy was right on one thing, assault weapons are not your best bet in a personal attack.

Lots of countries have women in combat and very successfully (none of this ******** about being able to handle the weapons – they can). I hope this doesn’t devolve into some stupidity like women who are in combat don’t want to be there. If they choose it, just like men do, they have to perform.

wahhhhhhh, wahhhhhh, wahhhhh, we lost the election, wahhhhh, wahhhhh how can this horror happen wahhhhhhhh. This is a pathetic display. And instead of thinking ‘oh maybe we should stop being so out there’, you all whine and cry and keep on acting like the world has ended.

find middle ground. Stop acting like Obama is the enemy. He’s your President and working for you. He’s not a communist, socialist nor Nazi. He believes in health care for all (The US is the ONLY developed nation that does not provide this – in the 21st century, ridiculous), that citizens should not have army grade weapons (every developed nation has gun control EXCEPT the US) and that the rich corporations who have steadily paid less and less taxes as you watch them take massive bonuses and send all YOUR jobs overseas pay 3% more (of course you think that’s unfair and will destroy jobs – except the jobs are already destroyed – not by Obama).
And by the way, people who are rich are not job creators. Corporations and small businesses are. Money that is taxed outside the businesses is not directly related to company jobs. So why do you have an issue with them paying more? Makes no sense.
