  • I have a question or two (and an opinion):

The title of this atheist organization (FFRF) argues for “Freedon From Religion”. Of course the US Constitution states “Freedom OF Religion” (see the 1st Amendment). Therefore, I am not certain of their position under law.

Next, what is a “religion”? Most would argue that it is an organized adherence to a “belief system” of some sort re: a “Supreme Being”, or GOD. Since a “belief”, by definition, is not based on provable “fact”, it is what it is: acceptance as truth that which can’t be proven. Nothing wrong with that, of course.

Since “theists” BELIEVE in God and “atheists” BELIEVE there is no God, both are “belief systems”. And, since the FFRF, indeed, is organized, isn’t it also a “religion” of sorts?

Therefore, under the US Constitution they should be allowed to practice their “faith” the same as any theist religion. Further, the FFRF and all like it do not have the right to “infringe” on the US Constitution’s defined rights of any other group. By demanding that their “belief” is superior to another belief, the FFRF is going against the “Freedom Of Religion” clause of our Constitution.

So, strictly speaking, all such law suits against the displays of “The Ten Commandments”, Christmas decorations, Menorah displays, etc., should be dismissed as frivolous and unconstitutional with all costs for such suits being borne by the bringer of the suit(s).

  • Well, all I can say is God help our armed services men and women. They’ll, now, definitely need all the help they can get.

  • Contray to many posts here S.E. deserves the right to express her opinions any way she sees fit. At least she is taking a stand for something in which she believes.

For those who are steadfastly homophobic, I can only offer my condolences. I assume your positions stem from religious leanings and/or Bible teachings. Fine! But, which parts of the Bible do you accept or reject?

This part: LEVITICUS (20:13) states, “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”

Or this part: The “Thou shalt not kill” commandment (i.e., Commandment V if you are Catholic, Commandment VI if you are Protestant or Jewish)?

Be consistent in your faith at least.

  • With the “Sequester” keep in mind that the projected deficit this FY is $901B. So, the Sequester’s $85B “cut” is only a decrease of the amount we would have to borrow “over” the not-yet-authorized “budget”.

  • Atheism is a belief system just as is any religion. An athesist “believes” there is no God. Others “believe” there is a God. Neither can “prove” their position. “Any intersection between belief and fact is purely coincidental.” Look up the words belief and fact in any dictionary.

  • Any intersection between faith/belief and fact is purly coincidental. Look up the words in a dictionary. Because one believes something is true does not make it true; nor if one believes something is not true does not make one correct.

  • Let’s get some actual history applied to the Emancipation Proclamation issued by A. Lincoln:
It proclaimed the freedom of slaves ONLY in the ten Confederate states then in rebellion.
The Proclamation did not compensate the owners, did not itself outlaw slavery, and did not make the ex-slaves (called freedmen) citizens. Slaves in the “Union” at that time were not freed by this.

It was done via an Executive Order using Lincoln’s “War Powers”. Please, let’s not confuse this with Obama’s use of prosecutorial discretion – i.e., deciding not to prosecute illegal activity – even though Obama’s directive, like Lincoln’s, only affects a portion of the peoples involved. Obama’s seems much worse as it directly countered recent actions by Congress to not pass the so called “Dream Act”.

  • SH3LLZ, You may have missed my point.
Everyone should leave everyone else alone.
What a person “believes” is not an issue.
Anyone can “believe” what they choose.
No one should be looked down upon based
on what they believe – nor acted against.
The old saying “Actions speak louder than
words” seems appropriate here. The Golden Rule
    is most applicable.

  • Christians, as well as many others, “believe” there is a God.
    Atheists “believe” there isn’t.

A definition of “believe”: The accepting of
    something as true without fact.

A Christian can no more prove their point than
can an atheist. So, get over yourselves and leave those
who don’t “believe” as you do alone.
