    Huh?!? “Reasons” are not “excuses”.

He was sleep walking. He was under the influence of a prescription drug, and alcohol.

He was in the wrong, although nothing suggests he was purposely so, and the neighbor had no reason to assume him innocuous. But that doesn’t make him a “white thug”.

I can’t speak for Copper Catfish, but no, I have not.

I’ve looked closely at a myriad of other faiths, Protestant, Catholic, Unitarian, and a host of other, non-Abrahamic religions. NONE offers the peace, knowledge, and quality of life The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints includes as part of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.

All religions have some truth, even Islam (albeit not much), but we LDSs have the most, and we believe that God will yet reveal many great an important things pertaining to His kingdom.

    Where does He say that?

Jesus didn’t command us to abstain. He wants us to avoid over indulgence.

No one claims He commanded everyone to abstain. He commanded US, LDSs, to abstain. You haven’t made a covenant to reject alcohol; I and millions of others have.

Does the LDS have restrictions against pain meds?

    No.

If they are prescription meds, we should have a scrip with our name on it, if they’re over-the-counter, we should use them judiciously. That’s about it.

The two things have little to do with each other. Jesus commanded us to abstain. We don’t know exactly why, and anyone who claims he does is naïve, at least no one has said so officially.

That said, God’s Word of Wisdom to us does come with blessings attached and we enjoy them as gifts from Him. Further, even if the blessings did not exist we’d still obey Him because we love Him.

It is my PERSONAL OPINION that we have the Word of Wisdom to do one other thing, besides obedience and blessings: it makes us different from the rest of the world. Just as the Sabbath kept the Jews more than the Jews kept the Sabbath, the Word of Wisdom reminds us who we are, and makes us more likely to follow the rest of God’s commandments and be faithful to our covenants.

By the way, it’s “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.” The name you used is for a wholly different organization. (Note the capitalization and hyphenation.)

As far as I have heard, death was by heart attack.

The police “caused” the heart attack by the added stress of the head lock and his being accosted and arrested.

However, “homicide” is not “murder”, and it is not even necessarily a crime. Self defense may result in death (a homicide), but it is not criminal to protect yourself or family from attack.

The law Garner was breaking was an affront to freedom (selling “unlicensed” cigarettes) is not morally wrong and NYC should be ashamed at having such a stupid law in the first place. But Garner was wrong for resisting arrest, no matter how bad the law is.

Government is the monopoly on the use (or threat) of lethal force. Without it, “government” is toothless and none of its laws will be obeyed. So, whether it’s a library fine, a murder charge or failure to pay a tax, if you resist long enough and strenuously enough, the state will kill you.

No, it was a head lock. There is a difference.

Garner didn’t die from anything the officer did. He was fat, he had a heart condition. He died by his own hand, or fork.

It was NOT a “choke hold”!!!!!!!

It was a “head lock”. One is against policy, the other is taught in the academy.

If we yield the language, we lose the debate.

It seems not to matter that garner was not put in a “choke hold”. It was a “headlock,” and the difference is not trivial.

This is just the same thing as when the angelic 13 year-old Trayvon Martin managed to get his photo substituted for the 18-year-old street thug Trayvon’s in all the newspapers and internet new outlets across the nation.

We must be careful of the words we use. As the wise man said, “In nature, it’s kill of be killed. In civilization, it’s define or be defined.” (Thos Szasz)

Cabinet “ministers” in a parliamentary system (like Israel’s) are not elected to the cabinet, they are appointed by the parliament, and from the parliament. They did not lose their seats in the Knesset, but they lost their ministry positions.

This is a bit oversimplified, but, in the main, it’s accurate.

You seem to be making the unwarranted assumption that she HAS ever worked a day in her life.

Don’t know her, and can’t say, but the odds are agin it.

Furthermore, why is she pregnant if she only has a “boy friend”: He must be her common-law husband. Wonder if he’s supporting his family.

Hatch didn’t start that way — Washington recreated him in its own image.

That’s why we need career limits: no one should be able to hold any combination of elected offices for more than 20 (or, better, 15) years; no one should be able to serve on a political office staff for more than one term; no one should be able to seek political office while holding one; no one should be able to hold an office a relative (by blood or marriage) has held; no one should be able to hold a political office who has not served in the military for at least four years. No political office should have any retirement plan, no medical plan, no “fact-finding” vacations, no perks of any kind.

Most of our political problems would go away if we got rid of career politicians and the benefits they derive from holding office.

“… Greg’s attorney is trying to get the teen readmitted to Abraham Lincoln High School.”

    Why!?!

No one who can think, no Christian, no Muslim, no atheist should even consider sending his child to a bureaucrat to raise him.

The cost of a free education is too high. That cost is your child.

Other have already said the same thing, but I will no longer patronize Panera Bread. I will stop one more time and tell them why. They may not miss my occasional $5, especially if I don’t make an issue of it.

Merely refraining from spending money there will not be as effective without letting them know why.

They are not “thinking”, they are “reacting”.

As you hint, were they thinking, the decision would be very different.

I didn’t do any research, but I believe “999″ is the British equivalent of “911″ here in USmerica.

    Indeed, they have “devolved”.

The cause is what you mentioned: “trillions of dollars given to their community since the 1960′s”. That’s what Johnson had in mind when he signed the “Great Society” legislation. In his words, “I’ll have those ni66ers voting Democrats for forty years.” He was wrong. It’s been FIFTY years and they still can’t see the chains he put on their ankles and necks.

One wonders why, when progressives encounter arguments against their favorite positions, they resort to ad hominem, rather than address the issues.

It is a fact that welfare has destroyed the Black Family, and is well on its way to destroying the White Family, as well.

Cobb is exactly right. Welfare creates nothing but dependency. I undermines families and makes government important in peoples’ lives, government rather than families. it only makes bureaucrats more intrusive, and politicians more powerful.

He is a “public servant” acting in his official capacity. SCotuS has declared that it is perfectly legal to record this kind of thing.
