When a Republican is wrong, or when a dozen of them are wrong, they’re wrong.

Failing to point it out is a moral outrage.

Written yesterday for another forum, but appropriate here:

Some have objected that there were no Mouselemin Founders, no Islamic signatories on the Declaration of Independence as proof that Islam had no influence on the origins of USmerica. Their arguments are true, but their conclusion is wrong.

Mouselmens had a direct impact on this country’s early history, and that impact is one we feel yet today.

A few years back, O’bama went to Africa and looked out “the door of no return” where hundreds of thousands of Black slaves embarked on their trip to British America and later USmerica. That story is well known. What is far less known is that those who sold the slaves were Moselemins.

Slavery has been described as the worst part of USmerica’s past. (We should remember, though, that wise Blacks, like Walter E. Williams and Thomas Sowell, have given public thanks to the slavers who were responsible for their being born in this great land.) It is the cause, we are told, of the grave unrest in the inner city (it’s not, that cause is welfare), and for the riots in Fergussen and Detroit and New York and East L.A.

So, I’m perfectly willing to give Islam its due: it has caused more pain and suffering in this great country than any other source.

Did you miss the part that said ” they usually call people to go there who can actually afford it”?

The Gardners did not choose Hawai`i. They were assigned there.

Section 132 does not say that Plural Marriage is a requirement of the Priesthood. It says that “Celestial Marriage” (of which Plural Marriage is only a subset) is a requirement for the ultimate level of Priesthood.

Of the 66 verses in this section, only about six are about Plural Marriage, the rest speak of the larger concept.

The Church “changed it’s [sic] stance on the issue” because the Lord revealed other information and a new application for the Church. Please review the notes to Official Declaration 1.

Only another revelation on the matter would “free up the leadership of the Mormon Church [sic] to resume these kind [sic] of sealing’s [sic] in [our] Temples”.

Hawaiians and Polynesians do very well at the dozen or so colleges/universities in Hawaii.

Indeed, they do. One of those universities is Brigham Young, Haiwai`i.

What I said and what I said and what you said are not at all mutually exclusive.

No vacation. They will be working at least 60 hours a week. Whatever they do (it could be proselytizing or being guides at the Temple there, or they could be teaching Hawai`ians and other Polynesians any of a multitude of skills), they will not be relaxing.

My Jacquie and I will be submitting our request for a mission call in the next two years. Her parents did it a few years back, and we know several couples and widows who have served three, four, or even five missions.

Really…..so motel rooms food and hospital visits are all out of their own pocket for a year?

No motels, they usually rent an apartment (although they may move on and others will live there) or an LDS member will open their home for them. (Senior missionaries, like the Gardners don’t often have access to the second option.)

We cover all of our own expenses (except catastrophic medical care), including air fare to the mission area and travel within it. Members often “feed the Elders”, but food is also a missionary’s responsibility.

I think it’s Minnesota that the DemoComm party is called the “Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party”.

They are affiliated with the DemoComms in everything, and their electors always vote for the DemoComm Presidential candidate.

We have no way of knowing whether this brave and resolute woman was White or Black (or some other race). Methinks that she was very likely White.

One thing for sure: had this case been different, the scum White and she Black, ₳£ $h₳r₱₸o₦ and J€$$€ J₳₡k$o₦ would be there in ½ a heart beat waving their banners, and rousing the rabble.

Maybe the cops can’t identify them and the prosecutors can’t charge them, but the store owners can figure out who they are, and they can sue them for damages (including the stolen property).

Bureaucratic ineptitude, official inertia, legal torpor, none of these is sufficient to stop justice.

Not only can the owners sue, but, in civil court, the standard is “a preponderance of the evidence”, a much lower bar than the “beyond a shadow of a doubt” required in criminal cases.

    Huh?!? “Reasons” are not “excuses”.

He was sleep walking. He was under the influence of a prescription drug, and alcohol.

He was in the wrong, although nothing suggests he was purposely so, and the neighbor had no reason to assume him innocuous. But that doesn’t make him a “white thug”.

I can’t speak for Copper Catfish, but no, I have not.

I’ve looked closely at a myriad of other faiths, Protestant, Catholic, Unitarian, and a host of other, non-Abrahamic religions. NONE offers the peace, knowledge, and quality of life The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints includes as part of the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ.

All religions have some truth, even Islam (albeit not much), but we LDSs have the most, and we believe that God will yet reveal many great an important things pertaining to His kingdom.

No one claims He commanded everyone to abstain. He commanded US, LDSs, to abstain. You haven’t made a covenant to reject alcohol; I and millions of others have.

Does the LDS have restrictions against pain meds?

    No.

If they are prescription meds, we should have a scrip with our name on it, if they’re over-the-counter, we should use them judiciously. That’s about it.

The two things have little to do with each other. Jesus commanded us to abstain. We don’t know exactly why, and anyone who claims he does is naïve, at least no one has said so officially.

That said, God’s Word of Wisdom to us does come with blessings attached and we enjoy them as gifts from Him. Further, even if the blessings did not exist we’d still obey Him because we love Him.

It is my PERSONAL OPINION that we have the Word of Wisdom to do one other thing, besides obedience and blessings: it makes us different from the rest of the world. Just as the Sabbath kept the Jews more than the Jews kept the Sabbath, the Word of Wisdom reminds us who we are, and makes us more likely to follow the rest of God’s commandments and be faithful to our covenants.

By the way, it’s “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.” The name you used is for a wholly different organization. (Note the capitalization and hyphenation.)

As far as I have heard, death was by heart attack.

The police “caused” the heart attack by the added stress of the head lock and his being accosted and arrested.

However, “homicide” is not “murder”, and it is not even necessarily a crime. Self defense may result in death (a homicide), but it is not criminal to protect yourself or family from attack.

The law Garner was breaking was an affront to freedom (selling “unlicensed” cigarettes) is not morally wrong and NYC should be ashamed at having such a stupid law in the first place. But Garner was wrong for resisting arrest, no matter how bad the law is.

Government is the monopoly on the use (or threat) of lethal force. Without it, “government” is toothless and none of its laws will be obeyed. So, whether it’s a library fine, a murder charge or failure to pay a tax, if you resist long enough and strenuously enough, the state will kill you.
