  • “I’m not arguing that its not a religious symbol, I’m arguing that that’s irrelevant. It doesn’t force anything on anyone.”

Here’s the problem that I have with it. The kids are a captive audience, in a place of learning, where there is an expectation that the school has some type of authority over them. On the walls where they sit all day, every day, there are signs that are ‘commanding’ them to worship the ‘one’ God. It just seems so Middle Eastern to me.

  • @CRAZYTRAVIS

Actually that’s not true. Nobody knows what it means for sure. ;)

  • “Thou shalt have no other gods before me”

Like philly says, it’s not a suggestion, it’s a ‘command’ and the top of the list. Put the last five on the first page of every text book as far as I’m concerned but don’t take kids who are forced to sit in a classroom and ‘command’ them to worship anything.

I was taught that America was about self-reliance, responsibility and innovation. It was formed out of the desire for freedom from oppression and tyranny. I don’t think classrooms ‘commanding’ kids to worship god follow that plan.

  • “The only reason the Gabe Pulliam felt uncomfortable by the presence of the Ten Commandments in classrooms was his lack of faith and integrity.”

I can’t speak for this kid but another possible reason he felt uncomfortable was the implication that his school was ‘commanding’ him to worship a god he doesn’t believe in. It is the first one on the list.

As for classes on integrity, I couldn’t agree more.

  • Personally I think this guy was trying to stir the pot in order to have something to write about on his travel blog. Put your phone away. The flight crew has more things to worry about when getting ready for a flight (especially a long one) than having passengers go out of their way to explain to them that they are not terrorists.

In general I get why people hate the TSA and their tactics but I also don’t understand why people think flying hassle-free is somehow their god-given right. Birds have a god-given right to fly, people don’t. Out ‘right’ to fly pretty much boils down to the guy who has trained for thousands of hours and holds his own and hundreds of others’ lives in his hands each day.

Don’t like it? Either don’t fly or invest in the time, money and training to do it yourself. Otherwise, suck it up and try not to be a pain in the **** for a few hours. It’s not that difficult.

  • 8 of those 10 are tech companies. What government regulations are stopping you from starting an online business or software company? Agree that it’s not so simple to start an oil company though.

  • @GHOSTOFJEFFERSON

Why would she protest in Saudi Arabia – She lives in Israel.

  • Doggy Style?

  • I’ve never been a big fan of authority but sometimes it’s just an IQ test. If you’re guilty, it’s not in your best interest to start ******* off judges and cops. And as messed up as the court system is, if it was a free-for-all in there everything would take 10 times longer and thus cost ten times as much for the poor suckers (us) that have to pay for it all.

I’ll bet the next 8 girls in line were nothing but ‘yes, your honor’ and they probably cranked through a few cases after that. Good.

The question of why Xanax possession ties up any court time at all is another story.

  • You make a very good point. I think there is a huge difference between being morally opposed to something and wanting the government to ban or control it. Want to stop abortions? Figuring out how to slow down unwanted pregnancies and strengthen adoption services would be a good start. Those are two areas where I think church outreach programs could be very effective and all privately funded through un-taxed non-profits. Oh, and don’t get anyone pregnant unless you want to raise a kid.
