Things arent quite the same. I grew up in rural community in a small town. This isnt merely walking through someone’s back pasture to shortcut it home. This is jumping a rather large fence at 2am, and go directly for the car. I’m sorry. I feel for the kid and his family. But if you come after my hard earned property or money by trying to steal it, I’ll shoot first and ask questions later.Unarmed or not, you have no business behind my gate at 2am unless you are up to no good. Time to stop coddling criminals.

So let me get this straight. The kid was trespassing, at night, and got shot for it and we are blaming the homeowner/resident? Didnt this story just say the kid was a thief? This being admitted by his own friends and family? I’m sorry, but I feel no sorrow for criminals. The kid was up to no good and got shot for it.
In your entire life as a kid in middle or high school did you ever walk through someones backyard at night? never did it once?
Dose of Reality.....
Walking through some ones yard is different, than CLIMBING A FENCE at 2AM in the Morning, not to mention the video footage of the neighbor, who showed the TWO boys casing the house throughout the night........
I climbed a fence or two - I played silly games when i was in middle school. Hell ive even walked into another friends homes at night with the intention of scaring him for laughs. We used to play neighboorh games of kick the can or hide and seek and would sometimes go into neighbors yards and hide under a bush or shrub. This is stupid stuff that CHILDREN do. None of it deserves a gunshot to the head.....

Max...so if you left a bicycle outside and saw someone stealing it you would shoot them dead?
"In your entire life as a kid in middle or high school did you ever walk through someones backyard at night? never did it once?"
Someone's FENCED yard? At 2am?? Ummm nope!! I was asleep at 2am except the couple times I snuck out and even then I stayed in MY neighborhood with a couple neighborhood friends and we stayed on the sidewalks or the neighboring fields doing a whole lot of nothing really. I was brought up that you don't go to other people's shut off areas especially at night unless it was an emergency and you needed to get to their front door or you get in trouble- if they come out you call to them loudly that you have an emergency and need help.
Since I didn't belong out at night to start with I sure wasn't ABOUT to compound it and possibly get caught by doing something further I wasn't supposed to do and besides what is behind someone's fence that I need to involve myself in- nothing. NO THANK YOU! I was dead if I was caught as it was.
Your parents allowed you to run around the streets at night? wow.
Apparently, you didn't read the ENTIRE story.
". . . he said the boy made a “thwarted move, as if to reach for something.” Fearing it was a weapon, Landry shot him once from about 30 ft away."
If someone makes a threatening gesture towards, chances are I'm going to shoot them; I'm not going to wait TILL they pull out their gun for me to shoot them. I don't want to kill anyone as much as you do, but it's kill-or-be-killed, and I don't really want to die.

I’m from Texas, so it gets dark a little after 6 pm, but in the northern reaches of the country, it gets dark around 4:30-5 pm. My first trip to Boston was in the middle of the winter. It was pitch black outside by 4:30. So if you want to do anything after work, more than likely it will be in the dark.
Just food for thought.

How do you know the person who swiped the gas didn’t also swipe the drivers license?
