Archon – It’s not calculus, and is far simpler than you make it out. The conservative view is this: Life is sacred above all else. It is the first principle, and trumps all others. Philosophizing about the fetus’ right to “DEMAND the use of the pregnant woman’s bodily resources,” etc. requires the setting aside of the first principle. In almost all cases, the woman is responsible for putting the child in her womb. Even if she is not, refer back to the first principle.

Goodstuff: So you equate 1) private people giving private donations to charitable organizations with 2) governmental confiscation of the citizens’ money to be mostly squandered but maybe partially distributed to folks who are chronically attached to the government’s teat? Did I get that right? Because it sounds like what you said.

Glenn has been consistent throughout. We stand on our principles, but when the math no longer works it is time to move ahead. Romney has been the presumptive candidate for years, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone when he actually clinches it. Glenn’s point has been that it is not a done deal, and that now is (has been) our chance to choose our best candidate, that we shouldn’t roll over for the big name guy if he doesn’t embody our principles. But again, once the math no longer works out, we have to get on with defeating Obama.
More specifically, Glenn is not telling you to vote for Romney if you support Santorum. That would be different.

Short sale? This story doesn’t say so, but Glenn and Stu mentioned that these folks owe about $60,000 on a $500,000 home. Either that was erroneous, or he’s lying some more. Good luck getting a short sale when you have $440,000 in equity.
Founders Scholar David Barton vs. Jon Stewart: ‘Boom, Winning!’
May 6, 2011 at 2:43pm
If you haven’t done so, please do yourself a favor and check out the rest of this interview. It goes on for a while. Amazing. BTW, I believe John Stewart is out in left field (pun intended), but I was surprised to see how much history he knows and how well prepared he was for this interview. Even though Barton toasted him. :-)
