  • As an orthodox rabbi, I feel it is sacrilegious to bench press using a Bible. We are enjoined to respect and honor the Bible (Tanach in Hebrew). We don’t put it next to us on the bench we are sitting on, and if it G-d forbid, falls to the ground, we kiss it and pick it up. Unfortunately, reform rabbis, such as Rabbi Wise do not have the proper respect for the Bible. That’s why they have “reformed” it.

    In reply to Mordy.

    ToiletClogga,

I never implied that eternal rest among Christians is bad. Jewish tradition however stipulates that Jews be buried in a Jewish cemetary. As much as we are all Americans, we cannot escape the differences among us. No one is better, only different.

Hizzoner will be missed. Interesting inscription on his tombstone. (“My father is Jewish, my mother is Jewish, I am Jewish.”) Knowing that people would second guess him for being buried in a Christian cemetary, Koch probably had the proverbial “Jewish guilt.” How sad that being buried in Manhattan was more important to him than being laid to rest among his own people.
