  • An open letter to SendTheMeteors:

Madam, you are indeed both arrogant and ignorant, in a sad and pitiful sort of way. As you deride those who would, for their own reasons, eschew college just out of high school in favor of going directly into earning a living (“It’s a fact that’s little understood by most who got a job out of high school and never went on to obtain a education from a college (like most here I imagine), particularly a college outside their town (maybe a couple here), more particularly a large college or University and most particularly a prestigious University.”) and extol the virtues of those who would choose a “prestigious university,” you have become a cautionary tale of what happens to those who choose the latter. Among those you insult are some very famous people who either didn’t attend college or dropped out quickly: Abraham Lincoln, Henry Ford, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Stephen Spielberg and Walt Disney. I expect that they are or were far more tolerant than you can ever hope to be, should you continue to embrace your current thinking.

Oh, incidentally, though we don’t deem it important, my husband is a physician and I work for a non-profit. We have lived in Asia for 6 years and have travelled far and wide, and there are many, many uneducated people across the globe who are far more enlightened and intuitive than you can ever hope to be, unless you seek to quit viewing life through your prism of contempt.

    Thank you.

  • Sir, this is not about whether commenters are being consistent. Don’t deflect this very important issue. I thank you for your service to this great country, as I thank all veterans (my husband is one — we are a Navy family). As I commented above, I volunteer at the USO several days a week and speak with many Vietnam veterans. Their pain (physical and emotional) is real. They have every reason to be deeply hurt and offended by this show. I expect that the vast majority of vets who watched it won’t say anything — certainly won’t call for a boycott — but when something this callous and insensitive happens on a show that is there for the purposes of entertainment, those involved in that decision need to know about it. For them, it is the bottom line — $$ — so if enough viewers express their disappointment, I expect CBS will be more careful about such things. As for your point — I share your frustration with those who would be hypocritical based on their politics, as well as the windbags who comment because they have nothing else to do. Just know that, beyond all the “noise,”our Vietnam veterans, who have NEVER had a proper welcome home from a grateful nation, deserve better.

  • To our Vietnam veterans and ALL veterans — THANK YOU!! As a USO volunteer, I have talked to a number of Vietnam veterans about their experiences — PTSD, coming home to being spat on and called “baby killers” by their fellow countrymen and, even now, dealing with the long-term effects of Agent Orange. It is heartbreaking and the person at The Amazing Race who made arrangements for callously using this site as a prop in this meaningless show should spend the day talking with these veterans. “Skippy” could use a REAL education…

  • Amen — keep ‘em coming, Liz! :)

  • Too funny!

  • A little levity from the day-to-day madness our politicians provide us with is not only welcome, but encouraged. Feel free to put a lampshade on your head once in a while — it’s better than having to have a room full of duct tape…

  • My niece applied for an internship on The Rick & Bubba Show by writing her resume in icing on a cake. She got the job…

  • We live on Guam and it’s been a rough couple of weeks. We had a mass murder last weekend (random guy drives up on sidewalk hitting 6 tourists, then gets out of his car and stabs 8 more, killing 3), then this Russia thing. Guam is usually a laid-back, sleepy little island where we only have to worry about keeping a balance of people on both sides of the island (I believe this was an edict from Hank Johnson)…weird stuff going on…

  • Happy77: BOOYAH!!!

  • Black Manta: you are so right about white folks, mainly the younger ones, wanting to be black. We used to call our blonde, blue-eyed teenaged son our adopted black child…even wore his **** in cornrows! :). It seemed odd to me…but it was his preference…It was trendy at the time. His hero was Tupac and he wanted to be Eminem. Kind of funny…this middle-class white kid with no “street experience.” BTW…your people are my people..we are all God’s people. Shalom and Godspeed!
