First, the nacelles are designed for a gear up landing. Gear dowwn at glideslope intercept is the accepted procedure which is approximately 2000ft AGL. Failing to deploy the landing gear will give you the incorrect pitch, thrust, speed and rate of decent. Should be obvious to pilots of their experience. The down gear is a lot of drag and effects the performance of the aircraft. Some one said there are two kinds of pilots, those who have and those that will execute a gear up landing. Nonesense, good pilot will be aware of the performance envelope. It is the same for a J3 Cub or a F4. The Blaze scribe mentions the ‘appropriate gear’ and missed approach 5000ft. He is not an aviator obviously. The gear up alert first came on when the second position of the flap setting was initiated. Second was the radar altimeter alert. The aborted landing was was initiated with the flaps probably in full down position but to retract the flaps at that altitude would have resulted in a crash. There was a fine line between completing the gear up landing or an aborted landing. His higher gear up speed was the most important decision making factor. Although he screwed up big time, he grasped the situation and saved everyones lives in doing so. If his decision resulted in a gear up landing at that point, it would have shown immense character, but would have cost him his carreer.Character may not be evident in his actual decision, but it could have been.Pos rate of climb- begins flap retraction.

That’s cool. You don’t have to mess up the guy’s face by putting a big hole between his eyes. You just remove the back of his head by removing both his eyes at the same time. It will be easier on the scuzzbag’s family. You gotta be considerate.

Liberals are so dumb. That is actually a good commercial for America. If Obama spends his $billions on ads like this, he will actually spread conservative message. It just may lead to a few converts.
He already is the best gun salesman in history.

I was flying at 10 000′ westbound over Freeport Bahamas enroute to FXE in my Baron at the time of the explosion. That makes it about 200 miles SE of the Cape. I had heard the whole countdown and launch from a Miami AM radio station on my ADF. I saw the cloud immediately. I turned to about 300 for about 10 minutes and saw the cloud heading south. I turned toward FXE and landed about half an hour later. We pulled into customs and as we got out the plane, the cloud drift directly over the airport in good definition in an otherwise clear blue sky. Must have been about 30 to 50 thousand feet above us. I’m 66 now and can remember it as though it was yesterday.
Here is a time line of the event. http://spaceflightnow.com/challenger/timeline/

What do you expect, her father was a progressive and a product of the New Deal government programs of the 1940′s which financed artists and brought us Ansal Adams, Aaron Copland, Martha Graham, and Woody Guthrie. He frequently spoke out against the profligate spending of the 1920′s and the hands off policies of Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover. He spoke at universities in the 1950′s during which time he articulated his respect for Roosevelt and love of the common man He also on more then one occasion spoke of his abiding distrust of big business and the rich.

@Hempstead1944. I can assure you that they do. Xi Jinping is a decent man and very pro business and his generation’s children will really accelerate the Chinese renaissance. We don’t stand a chance if we get in their way. We must embrace them because they are the future. We have 3rd world invaders who will out number us in a few years which will ensure Democrat rule for life. My son and daughter live in Shanghai and my son has a Chinese wife. Both have Chinese born children. Xi Jinping and his beautiful superstar wife live in Shanghai and are leading the cultural revolution. They are very popular and our Kenyan tribal chief has no idea who they are. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=2R5SCXKrWpo Jinping’s wife.

Reagan asked where are we to go after America is done. China, that’s where. They have learned from the folly of their communist ways and emerge from where we are heading. My kids have Chinese citizenship and live in Shanghai. I have a home there and I have been doing business there 99. They are fine fine people and very pro American, at least the America that I grew up in. In one year from now, I will decide if I will remain an American. If we have a choice between Newt, Romney or Obama as president, we are surely done. They will impose the same carbon tax on us. We are one supreme court judge away from tyranny. I’m 66 and I’m done fighting. The best thing about China is that there are no American liberals there. Many Americans have already made the move to Singapore, Taiwan and China.
I agree America is more like what China was 20 or 50 years ago and China is more like what we were 20 or 50 years ago China wants to GO GO GO but here its restrictions on top of more restrictions EPA EPA EPA they want to have total control of everything and fine you at the drop of a pin and make it very expensive to do business.
We are so controlled, restricted and covered with requirements for everything under the sun as to make it impossible to get anything done without approval from 5 agency’s.
You mean they have not direction from Cloward and Piven? What king of a place is that?
When the hard line Communists take over China again someday and you end up in a labor camp making lamps for Wal-Mart eating a bowl of rice for dinner each night I hope you remember what you posted here in 2012.
Penns...The hard liners can no longer take control..too much freedom now..they still run the military but the military is in bed with industry making $$ and selling crap to the US and everyone else in the world..I would explain it all to you but I'm all out of puppets and crayons!

So, One man progressive, what is your favorite formula in physics? Without a science degree, you are uneducated.Period. I don’t know of any engineer who can spell, Language structure and spelling is in direct conflict with the perfect symmetry of math and physics. English has many origins and early scribes were illiterate. What you subscribe to, is route learning. We engineers use a different part of our brain to communicate, a part of your brain which is dormant or deformed. I know a brilliant aerodynamicist at NASA that you would label as illiterate. He spell phonetically because his thought process won’t allow stupidity. Ones abilities with language are determined by the age of 3. You can’t conclude intelligence or education level by the way someone speaks or writes. This is the false yardstick that people like you measure others. Beware the orator, for he feeds you with an empty spoon. Ask any politician, lawyer or salesman, who are totally void of logic. A lawyers mind cannot grasp the significance of this particular Blaze story. We are governed by lawyers and therefore, we are led down the path of destruction in what is an alternate reality. It is unsustainable.
Lets examine your handle, shall we? By your actions here, you wish to control others. This displays low self esteem. The grammar used in your handle suggest to me, that you claim to be a progressive. In your own words,’..a progressive wrecking crew’. Get it? As a progressive, you try to wreck Tea Party

This downward velocity behind the wing is called “downwash”. Both the increase in the speed and the increase of the angle of attack increase the length of the vertical arrow. It is this vertical velocity that gives the wing lift. The greater the angle of attack, the greater the vertical velocity. Likewise, for the same angle of attack, the greater the speed of the wing the greater the vertical velocity. What the wing does to the air is the action while lift is the reaction. The bending of the air is the action. The reaction is the lift on the wing. If we estimate that the average vertical component of the downwash of a Cessna 172 traveling at 110 knots to be about 9 knots, then to generate the needed 2,300 lbs of lift the wing pumps a whopping 2.5 ton/sec of air! If a plane were to fly over a very large scale, the scale would register the weight of the plane. The amount of air pumped down for a Boeing 747 to create lift for its roughly 800,000 pounds takeoff weight is incredible indeed. When the tower advises you to allow for wake turbulence from the plane in front of you either in take off mode or on final to land, by all means, distance yourself acordingly.
January 26, 2012 at 6:20pm
Well, this has been long taught at flight schools that the differential pressures on the upper and lower surfaces of a wing causes lift. This is not true. Bernoulli Principle claims that the velocity of the airflow over the curved upper surface accelerates to meet the airflow of the flatter bottom surface at the trailing edge at the same time and this causes the pressure difference. So how would one explain inverted flight then? Mmmm. A Cessna 172 would have to taxi at about 300 mph to create enough lift for the little pane to take off. Since compressibility begins at about 250mph on a standard day the airspeed would be measured by Mach ratios, 0.3Mach in this case. The video shows subsonic flow so that’s where I will confine my observation. Now if you introduce 4′ angle of attack at 60 mph, the little plane will jump into the air. What happened? Well Newton’s 3 laws of motion, that’s what. Changes in the air’s momentum will result in forces on the wing. To generate lift a wing must divert air down; lots of air. That means, if one sees a bend in the flow of air, or if air originally at rest is accelerated into motion, there is a force acting on it. Newton’s third law states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. The lift of a wing is equal to the change in momentum of the air it is diverting down. Momentum is the product of mass and velocity.
This downward velocity behind the wing is called "downwash". January 25, 2012 at 5:51pm
AGW is political. It is a hoax to destroy capitalism. When a scientist’s well being is threatened by the withdrawal of government funds, he provides proof for junk his science. Since when is carbon dioxide a pollutant? Plants thrive on it and we breath it out. It forms on average of 0.037% of the atmosphere. You increase this percentage of CO2 in your backyard green house to accelerate growth. The earth would benefit from an increase of CO2 and higher temps. It is just a convenient way to spread the wealth by forced taxation. Most people belive it. George Sorros and others have a vested interest in this junk science. The attempt at this connection is therefore valid. QED.
January 25, 2012 at 4:38pm
I just don’t know how our laws protect these people who wish to destroy or country. What kind of laws are these? We have laws that permit others to destroy us, absurd? Smart ass constitutional lawyers like Judge Napolitano and Mark Levin will not entertain any notion as to the procedures that would bring these criminals, including Obama, to justice. They just won’t talk about it. When our laws kill us, there is something seriously wrong with the law.
I’m an engineer and can’t understand the limited logic of lawyers. We live in different realities. Mark Levin’s new book, Ameritopia, needs to be edited by an engineer, a general and a businessman. Worth reading anyway.
They talk about natural laws. How about the laws of physics? Can’t get more natural than that. Self protection and survival are natural reactions programed into us by God himself. Any of man’s laws that oppose this reality should be ignored. These awful men are permitted to destroy us and are protected by lawyers and judges. Natural laws trump man made laws when survival is the issue. I want to hear just one presidential candidate stand up and say that when he or she is elected, he or she will arrest Obama and Sorros and try them for crimes against the state. We must find such legal minds that really understand natural law to bring this to fruition, ‘legally.’
Confused at all? Here’s the recap: Forecast the Facts is "pressuring" meteorologists by publishing their public domain, on air statements denying climate change on their website. Forcast the Facts is a "partner" of CEL, although there is no indication at all what type of relationship the "partnership" is. At some time in the past, maybe 20 years ago, George Soros made a charitable contribution to CEL.
I think we must be playing that "six degrees of separation" game here. Using connections like those, you can link any two people or organizations in the world together with just a couple of "dots" being connected.
Besides, global warming is an issue of science, not politics, despite what Rushbo tells you.
Man-made global warming is not about science at all. It is about mind control. It is about controlling millions of people without the use of force. So, therefore, it is all about politics. Specifically, the politics of the Progressives!
Man-Made Global Warming is an issue of Pseudo-Science,, promoted by Money Skimming Politicians, like Barry ,, enriching his Union, and DEMOCRAT Buds with TAXPAYERS money.
Rushbo is still right
Here is a site you may be interested in; it is like the Drudge Report for "Climate Change".
What country are you talking about? We are all citizens of the world! Just ask our god emporer Obama!

You're Wrong JZS, it’s about money and controlling people.
Can't you see, it's the deniers who are preventing the establishment of a carbon tax to bail out the worlds economies!
I need to put on another sweater....
JZS - Since the science can't prove human culpability, yet so many insist a link exists, Global Warming is indeed a political issue.
I'm just thrilled to read so many meteorologists standing strong on facts and science. Thank God!
Jaycen, you're right in a sense. Science can't "prove" that cigarettes cause cancer. That's would involve taking a large group of young teens, forcing half of them to smoke and not allowing the other half to smoke. Then waiting 30 years to see who gets cancer and who doesn't. Even then it's not "proof" no matter what the results. Conclusions from induction are never "proof" in the same way mathematical proofs are (given an agreed on set of assumptions).
Scientists never proved lead gasoline, paint and other lead based products raised lead levels in Americans and caused nerve damage in young children exposed to elevated levels. Yet, lead gasoline was banned despite the advantages of lead compounds in gasoline. The oil companies and those invested in them protested as you are now against greenhouse emissions. But it was done, and everyone now agrees that was a good idea.
Companies have always objected on financial grounds that it would cost them more money to not pollute the air, water and ground. Nobody could "prove" that was a problem, that dumping suspected human carcinogens (there are no "proven" human carcinogens in the sense you use the word) in the environment ever hurt anyone. But now that's illegal, despite the lack of proof.
You're on the wrong side of history friend.
um... i like how people who aren't meteorologists are telling meteorologists what they should be telling us in regards to the climate... LOL ... my God...
@ phantom , thanks very well said but sadly your explanation will fall mostly on deaf ears. We used to say to guys like them that if you don't like the US go to Venezuela or Cuba. In this case if you don't like " climate change " move to Venus or maybe even better the "red" planet Mars!
Hello all first timer here. I would like to put this global warming thing into perspective. Something that no one seems to approach. CO2 is only .038 percent of our atmosphere. That's a very small for an inert, clear gas. Projections converted from ppm's (which most don't understand) to percentage would be up from .038 to .04 percent an insignificant increase if it is indeed true. So it will increase from 38 parts of CO2 per 100,000 parts of air to 40 parts per 100,000 parts per air. To understand even better, change the part to drops or gallons or any other units of measure you can visualize.
By the way sorry for jumping in on you Phantom. I do I actually do a new post?
JZS says: "You're on the wrong side of history friend"
JZS, you are on the wrong side of now.
You have already lost the argument.
The cat's out of the bag.
The jig is up.
The worm has turned.
The veil has been lifted.
The buck has stopped.
The pig has flown.
Let me know when coastal cities are underwater. Then I'll listen to you.
But for now, I'll listen to scientists. (Honest ones that is)
By the way, I tried to reply to your other post, (good post by the way), and low and behold, I was denied.
Keep in mind that the commie progressives control the schools from K-12 through college so if they can't coerce these meteorologist to spread the global warming scam on their nightly broadcasts they will just create the next batch of new indoctrinated meteorologist straight from the college campuses, it's only a matter of time. The only reason they are trying to force the current batch of meteorologists to spew the lefts lies is because the left is impatient and wants their global warming tax money now rather than 15-20 years from now.
watch this...very interesting points on just about everything they are teaching in schools.
if you go back to last ice age about 10,000 years ago, build a graph of temps, polar ice etc and have end date of today. The line will be a straight decline from 10,000 years ago. The same crowd that is blaming people is the same crowd that blames America first. Coincidince?
@ The Rights of Billy, Funny that you mentioned the rising seas that most AGCC supporters scream at the top of their lungs as the worst fate to soon befall man. I've done some simple research with an icecube and water, and it turns out that sea ice cannot raise the sea levels when it melts. Something about buoyancy and displacement of water being equal to the volume that the ice will take up when melted. So that means that only glaciers on land can contribute to rising oceans. I then did some rather uncomplicated geometry and found the change in volume of the oceans if the water were to rise one meter (~3 feet). Suffice it to say that even if all the water on land were to flow into the seas, water would not rise high enough to take out more than a couple rows of beach homes. Now, obviously, all the ice in the world is not going to melt because we have this thing called seasons that keeps it cold half the time.
I'm personally more worried about the couple thousandths of an inch of water we get every year from meteors, comets, and space debris on a consistent basis. At that rate it will only take millions of years to put Florida under water. WHAT CAN WE DO TO STOP THE MADNESS???
@JZS... You're quickly becoming the new poster boy for...
Judging by the old saying, "What you don't know can't hurt you," he's practically invulnerable.
its time for us to use our guns to throw off this tyrannical government. it is not only our right but our duty as citizens of this nation. lock n load Americans its time to fight for our freedoms. its time for them to do the dieing for their cause. we are duty bound to help them all go to hell.
I doubt most people here (myself included) know for a fact if there is or is not man-made global warming. We hear talking points pro and con and have to then formulate an opinion, which is most likely more often than not politically based instead of science based.
It does make perfect sense to want to stop as much pollution as we can -- there certainly cannot be a good argument for polluting the very earth we live on, especially since it's kinda hard to trade it in for another one. However, at the same time, it makes no sense to make claims that there is no proof of. I hear that global warming is happening on all planets, thus it cannot be man-made. I do not know if that's true, unfortunately. My gut tells me man is not significant to destroy this earth, but he certainly can cause problems.
What the opposing side to global warming has failed to do over and over and over is show just WHY it's not man that is causing this. Educate the public, period. Give us verifiable facts we can check on so we can make a better informed decision. This is the same thing with the tax debate about 15% not being a 'fair-share' for millionaires. Why is it not a fair share? Educate the public! The left does a great job of putting out their information and their talking points and the conservatives seem to suck at it. Tell Joe the Plumber's employees why Joe's 15% tax rate on his capital gains income is fair and equitable so they understand the debate.
Until the conservative right can formulate this argument on taxes and on global warming in a manner that the "common man" understands it, they're going to reelect our muslim-in-chief and allow him to finish destroying our loved country.
"Besides, global warming is an issue of science, not politics, despite what Rushbo tells you."
Regardless of what Rushbo tells us, if even a single region of the earth gets colder after one year, then it means that whatever may be the cause of warming in other regions, it's not global.
Remember: It was considered "settled science" that Global Warming was happening - so to now try to call it Climate Change is an admission that the environuts were wrong. The Hockey Stick graph was manufactured to prove Global Warming, not Climate Change.
By the way, I caught this same story on JunkScience.com, an excellent resource.

As a war monger, a historian,an aviator and a businessman, I’ll tell you how this will unfold as I leave myself an out. I’m not in the least concerned about my future.Things change and one must adapt in order to survive.Never before in history has there been capital flight of these proportions.Trillions of dollars are fleeing to Asia from the west. Most of it comes from America. If you want to know the future, watch where businessmen invest. These are the smartest people in the world and the Chinese people embrace them. I was already late to the party when I started importing things from China in 99. I then started manufacturing and for the past 3 years, I have owned a home in Shanghai. My son and daughter became Chinese citizens and will never return. They have Chinese born children.Beck and Limbaugh bad mouth these fine people, but let me assure you, they are very pro American with all the values that we once had. They will continue to take advantage of our stupidity. They are not PC and will win in the end. That pipeline should go to China filled with our oil. They must become our very best friend and ally against real evil. The people who count have already embraced them and it is not Sorros and his friends. The western commies have totally underestimated them. They are emerging from a dark age that we are entering. The west including us, have lost our will to survive.I’ll watch from a distance to see the **** hit the fan.Know the art of war but pray. Smart Americans already do.

@CAT.This is a Backdraft replica Cobra made in South Africa, It is the best value out there and the best looking.. It starts at $30 000 and you can dress it up to the north side of $100 000. It is a slightly stretched Cobra, both in length and wheel base so that big guys can get into it without sitting sideways. It rides on a square tube space frame with hard points for the 3 series BMW suspension. It out handels every other Cobra out there, including the originals. It rides better than all the rest by far.
Trouble with these weekend warriors on track days, is that they don’t realize that if you go racing on a regular basis, you not only check on routine maintanence items, but major components as well. If you are going to do this, it is better to update all systems to race car specs.
Chances are that that a lower ball joint failed on the front suspension or a tie rod end. This looney does not even have a roll cage or at least a triangulated roll over hoop. This is the price you pay for ignorance. Unfortunately, he remains in the gene pool.
Shelby Cobras are also made in South Africa also by Superformance. They are beautifully made and are the best quality out there. Expensive, but you get what you pay for. Like most of the replicas, their bodies are made of fiberglass. It is possible to get a aluminum bodied Shelby replica, but it is imported from Poland. No steel ones are offered. To see real Cobras racing, you will have to attend the Goodwood or Sanoma festivals.

Saw a few real AC’s at Sebring, Florida 24-hour endurance in 66, 67 & 68
They did poorly, Porsche cleaned everyone’s clock
Real AC’s in the states can run at or over $135,000 these days.
Have a close friend in Palm Beach who has two CSX AC’s professionally packed and garaged in conditioned space since 1977
Went for an all day ride in his British racing green snake in 72
He had to drive like a wimp on S. Ocean Drive due to speed limits, grumpy cops and babes along South Beach every 50' that wanted him to stop so they could go for a ride …
I wouldn’t own one
Like owning a Rolls, too afraid somebody might play bumper cars with their rust bucket Impala !!
I'll stick with the sea and professionals who know what they're doing with powerful machinery ...
