And I need to add – he did NOT retire. He got out. There’s a difference.
As far as not finding a job, none of us feel like the US owes us one, we didn’t serve for that. But it is also inversely frustrating to not find work with people who value what we bring to the table. Jobs for Vets is an overused slogan. Unless a vet wants a ‘shovel ready’ job there’s nothing out there, ESPECIALLY if your a retired vet like me. I’ve been without solid work other than consulting for three years since retiring from the Coast Guard.

My respects to the shooter, but if he wanted continued medical, pension, and other benefits, he should have stayed in until retirement. He knew the consequences to him and his family of not re-enlisting with 16 years in.

I am growing sick and tired of couch Christians statements such as Patriot Huntress’s – “That doesn’t mean we can’t defend our very lives but we have much more to stand on if we let the other side clearly make the first strike…” Really??? That doesn’t make sense in light of the entirety of scripture. Let’s say the General in charge of FORSCOM is a Christian… does this mean that he should allow a first strike in order for our war efforts to be “righteous” by your standard? Do we need to wait for another 9/11 to defend our country? Because if your answer is no, then you must accept the fact that ‘proactive’ intelligence gathering and military posturing WILL result in “first strike” bloodshed. Also, God used warfare and insurrections to do his will, both for his people and later as judgment on them which many current believers dismiss as “Old Covenant” thinking. But Jesus also stated this when asked about what we now call the Old Covenant – “For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass from the Law until all is accomplished.” (Matt 5:18 NASB)
If our forefathers thought as many of these keyboard commando Christians do our losses would’ve been HEAVIER and we might not have even won the Revolution.

Marine, all due respect but you miss the point – I sure am glad our forefathers didn’t take a passive aggressive stance and hide behind selective scripture verses. When you take scripture as a whole you have to separate out your personal actions to live Holy with whats right politically (which is really the same). Unfortunately that last stance has resulted in wars, like the Revolution, which I believe was a righteous war against tyranny. None of those men asked for war, but they knew when trying to change things passively was a lost cause and signed the Declaration of Independence. Many of those lives and their families but not before being brutally tortured or witnessing their wives and children brutally tortured and killed. At what point does our current passive stance become dishonor to those families?

Right on. Problem is, most Christians are too busy being entertained at ‘Mega-Church’s” like Andy Stanleys and are not engaged in Spirtual Warefare, meaning praying and standing up for righteousness, and calling sin what it is, sin. The church in America has failed… Like Dr. D. J.
