God speaks to people everyday but the problem is most people don’t listen. The Bible is full of examples of God speaking to people who were not kings or leaders. As to why would God speak to this guy rather than the Cardinals. Who says God did not speak to the Cardinals? I know my prayers and those of many other Catholics have been for the Holy Spirit to guide the Cardinals in their choice. Rather than facing the world with sceptism I prefer to keep my heart open to the little things God does every day to speak to his people.
