Grow from what into what? Why must it be only through pain that we can grow? Why cannot we grow through reason and understanding from where we are at now to where we are capable of being? Why MUST suffering be the one thing that advances our growth (or as some could logically argue, be the catalyst for human evolution)?
exactly, SKUNK. adversity can be a way to grow, but it's not the only way. that's like preachers who claim they can speak to sinners because they've sinned. it's a sales pitch. a lot of people buy it, apparently.
Philly, you're obviously a young'n.
I, was one that had reason and the where-withal to get it right and be successful, until...
Life deals tragedy to us personally at some point in our existence, which I think you've never seen, our you have seen but deny it has happened.
Did your bitterness come from learning from others or is it from personal tragedy?
Denial worked for me for awhile but it doesn't work forever. We have to obtain peace from some source but the temporary fixes are just that, temporary.
PLAN - i'm 39 years old. my life has not been without adversity, although i'm luckier than most i think. i don't know why you assume i'm bitter, b/c that's about the last characteristic i'd assign myself.
it's not just about "how would we grow?"
What if God prevented ALL bad things from happening? ...to everyone, the good and evil alike. Do you not think we would (almost) all become complacent and selfish in a major way? Then selfishness separates us further from God. It is a simple question, how does God allow this, but to the person who accepts God's will, it is not really our place to question His will. To those who don't accept God's will, what strength do they draw from in times of adversity? Anger?

Reminds me of when Regan was elected governor here in California. The next morning, a classmate came in sobbing that a Republican got elected and the now we were going to have to go to school on Saturday!
