Don't think you even need journalism 101, how about common sense, which seems to be in very short supply among the oh, so smart elitists?
Wonder if the firings were done more as a media stunt to limit the damages from lawsuits than as an expression of real remorse? Wonder if those fired publically will be rehired privately in a parallel or promoted position at another media outlet in the Cox empire a la government bureaucrats?
Seriously - if anyone thinks that the problem is how they confirmed the names we have serious issues. All it should have taken is an editor or producer READING the names to themselves. Even if you thought those names MIGHT be legitimate Asian names - what are the odds that the FOUR pilots would have those names or even in that order? What is missing is common sense, not any type of sophisticated policy or procedure. That is why they look stupid. It isn't like they got fooled to read four common but wrong names like "they are Capt. Bill Smith, and pilots Tom Frank, Sarah Good, and Victor Peterson" or if you will "Capt. Won Ti Woo." No, they felt it necessary simply to speak without thinking and I don't believe that is what NEWS is about, especially when you are about to affect peoples lives. How many times have reporters linked the wrong "Insert Name Here" from one city or facebook account etc. with the another person of the same name or similar name.
In the military we would call that a mistake caused by "a false sense of urgency".
These people don't even pay attention to what they are saying when they are saying it. You would think a news anchor might read "And the Captain's name is Wi To Lo...uh (reads ahead on the teleprompter and sees the other names), wait a minute that just sounds wrong, we need to reconfirm this information." Or at least some producer would want to get it right and would be doing a read ahead and say "how are these pronounced?"
The station gave those exact names to the NTSB intern. The intern, thinking it was a joke, just said "Yea, sure those are the names alright" and the stupid reality is that that reporter submitted it as fact to someone else higher. How could that possibly happen? What reporter, who called the NTSB, recited those names and accepted the confirmation?
I don't see how it's the interns fault, he probably thought some a'hole senior agent was pranking him.
Who called the NTSB? That's the initial idiot. Now who gave those names, originally, to the idiot at the station? That guy deserves to polish off his resume the most.

Oh my, do these geniuses demanding that “wall street” cancel Detroit’s debt understand what they are saying? Ironically its possible the pension funds have some Detroit debt in its portfolio, but nonetheless if the debt is cancelled who will lend to them in the future? Even under bankruptcy who will want to lend to them? I do not recommend anyone by state, federal or municipal bonds as it just paper over poor management in government.

I will bet dinner that before the week is out, O’rielly will walk it back and offer some kind of apology. He touched the “third rail” of politics.
classic liberal stupidity. So its racist to say that blacks commit crime at a higher rate relative to their percentage in the overall population? ITs racist to say blacks have a higher percentage of out of wed lock births versus other ethnic groups.

I am amazed at the comments here, no one truly knows the motivation. I suspect he did it to prove what he has been saying but posting it on line for the world to see? Not coo IMHO, however I have been in a similar situation where my wife will “punish” me when she does not get her way by not speaking to me, she argues and behaves like the kid that takes their ball when they do not get their way, while I prefer to be in a loving relationship, at those times I shrug my shoulders and enjoy the silence because at least there is no overt criticism in silence, yes in my case its either silence or criticism. I suspect its the same in his case. and I do sympathize with him on the temper tantrum part.

I raised two kids, they were 7 months apart, I have taken them to day care for years, I never came close to leaving them in the car at any time, summer or winter. I just cannot relate to any of these stories.

Bill is a genius at determining who is a dumb ass since he is one. He clearly validates the Mark Twain quote Its better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt.

excuse me? I am a minority, how will you “educate” me? am I that stupid that I need educating? I can think for myself. The GOP has attracted folks like Col West and others by staying true to their principles. The only way to attract others is to dilute the message (no more pro-life, smaller govt, low taxes) and then what? If folks vote for the democrats despite their repeated failures then there is nothing the GOP can do to change that. People will either vote for the real thing (Dems and their “Santa Claus” philosophy, or the GOP standing on their principles of ow taxes, smaller govt.) they will not vote for Dem lite. GOP stand with your principles, the only this is be more articulate on how low taxes, smaller government will help ALL.

Bill maher betrays his ignorance every time he opens his mouth. He definitely confirms what Mark Twain says that its better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt.

funny thing him asking us not to rush to judgement, lets see how he has responded to other situations. 1) Cambridge police acted stupidly. 2) If he had a son he would look like Treyvon Martin. 3) We need stronger gun control (after Newtown shooting despite knowing that nothing he proposed would have prevented Newtown). Sure Mr President, we will surely not jump to conclusions despite the youtube and Facebook postings about what these guys believed. I think they must be choir boys as pure as newly fallen snow.
No Mr President, you are the last person to lecture us on what to do. Please serve out the rest your term and let us heal from your divisiveness.

hey Fire, how ironic, you accuse someone of assuming something but you assume the person is a “right winger” lol. Irony is usually lost on liberals.

is anyone surprised that Kerry said this? this is the person who said all these nasty things about his fellow soldiers back in the 1970s and even more recently. This man is a disagrace but given his boss no one should expect anything less.

im amazed at the restraint displayed by the soldier. I suspect most other military members would have taken more drastic action against this idiot.

for all the folks (mostly libertarian) who say “gay marriage” will not impact others, note the number of businesses that have been threatened by refusing to do a this florist did.

this goes to show that these arrogant politicians just dont get it. Check out the quote from the esteemed senator from CT. Wow.

ironically, its the liberals who are using disinformation and scare tactics. Wasnt it obama who said that automatic weapon was used in Sandy Hook killings?

Why does any thinking person go on this guy’s show? Not many people watch it anyway and the people who dont support their views wont watch them.
