Although not for the same reason, Jehovah’s Witnesses do not say the pledge, based on our only giving our allegiance to God and no one else. We fought the matter in the supreme court and in 1943 they legally established this freedom of conscience issue. How teachers could be ignorant of this right of the students is astounding.

Make your little girl put her toys away before bed, do simple chores to earn goodies and toys she wants, and remind her that everything in your house is yours as the parent, and you will not have it too bad. A grounding or taking away an priviledge for a period will be all she needs.

Today many of us are guilty of pampering our kids when they are young and then seeing them become thankless. If they are taught the value of hard work and earning what you get from a very young age the readjustments in their teen years is MUCH easier.

While it is normal for teens to rebel, vent, and see things from a completely self-centered viewpoint, it is the parents job to humble them and bring them back down to reality. It means hurting their ridiculous, bloated self-esteem and reminding them that they are under their parent’s authority and owe them honor. To remind them that their parents provide them with shelter, clothes, food, “toys”, transportation, medical care, cable, internet, etc. And in return, they have to pull do their part to keep the household running smoothly. Everyone must contribute to the home that supports them.

Some kids need a harder readjustment than other. An easy to adjust kid is like working with soft clay. The more they harden their selves, the harder the readjustment will be. Bottom line is a child has to understand their life is not yet their own and they are under their parents authority. This is the stepping stone to learning that our lives are not our own and we are under Jesus authority. Learn one and the other comes naturally.
