I don’t doubt that Tsarnaenv is a terrorist and his actions, when proven beyond a reasonable doubt, should cost him his life, BUT he is an American citizen, accused of a crime. He has rights. He had them, has them, and will have them until he dies or is stripped of his citizenship. The Bill of Rights did not confer these rights on him, it only stated that these rights were recognized by the US government. I assume he is a citizen of Massachusetts. Its constitution also states that he has rights that cannot be suspended. We used to be a republic – a form of government where certain things are not up for a vote. His rights are not up for a vote, a ruling, the pronouncement of a politician. The Miranda ruling and the requirement to “read him his rights” does not confer rights upon him. It was meant to be a reminder of his ALREADY EXISTING RIGHTS. Whether or not his Miranda notification is read to him, he has the right to advice from counsel, the right to remain silent and all other rights guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. Don’t like that? Sorry, it’s not up for a vote. Want to change that? Create an amendment, but be very cautious. Repeal the rights of one and you start down a path that will lead to very dark places. Fear makes people without principles do stupid and evil things. Politicians will use that fear. Anyone who is currently ignoring this person’s rights is in violation of his oath to uphold, support and defend the Constitution.

From the moment NASA decided to NOT reveal that there had been a major foam strike to Columbia’s crew, NASA was wrong. The crew could have done an EVA or used the robotic arm in the cargo bay to visually inspect the wing. From the tests conducted after Columbia’s loss, the hole in the wing was easily visible. An all-out effort to mount a rescue mission with one of the other shuttles could have been – and should have been attempted. If NASA had alerted the crew at once, there would have been about 10-12 days for a rescue mission to be coordinated. Instead, seven astronauts died because some administrators didn’t want to admit there might be a serious problem. It might have been possible to alter the re-entry angle to put less strain on the port wing. It was during the “S” turns the shuttle executed to bleed off speed that the wing failed due to the damage that had been done during the peak heating period of re-entry. The conversation this story relates is heartbreaking, but the families and friends of Columbia’s crew are more heartbroken. The crew deserved better from the team on the ground.

Thousands, indeed. I recall a Tea Party event back in 2009 where all of Pennsylvania Avenue was covered by people demanding that Obamacare not be enacted. No member of the administration, and certainly no Cabinet secretary came out to address the crowd. Last week, a crowd in the hundreds of thousands protested against abortion. No coverage. No comment from the administration. A thousand people show up to show their support for gun control and its a movement that gets encouraged to “act.” Funny how sometimes our government can’t hear a roar, but can hear a squeak.

40 states filed petitions, including: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Nevada, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Are they all racist, southern states? Touré must think so. He also must assume that despite the fact that many people living in the South are black, only white people who are racist signed the petitions…like all those racists in Illinois and New York. He also fails to recall that most of these states and a majoirty of Americans voted for “that black man in the White House.”

Jeff Abramson, of Control Arms, seems concerned about the arms flowing into Syria. I suppose that if no weapons were entering the country, Assad could murder his people with the weapons he and his army already have, while the people have no arms to defend themselves. Yes, that does sound like a way to ““set tough rules to control the arms trade, that will save lives and truly make the world a better place.” I can only imagine that Jeff wants to bring the same rules to the shores of America, so that when the US government begins killing Americans, they, too, will have no access to the tools of self-defense.

Jeff is a fool, and a tool of oppresive governments.

It’s time to face a disturbing fact: Islamists want to destroy all who oppose them. They are willing to kill. If you are not a Muslim, they will either force you to convert, enslave or kill you. When they have eliminated every Hindu, Jew, Christian, Taoist, Buddhist, Shintoist, Atheist, Wiccan, etc., they will turn on each other and keep right on killing. The Shiites will kill Sufis. The Sunnis will kill the Salafists. When only one Muslim is left alive on Earth, he look to heaven, proclaim that all of this has been for the glory of Allah and then, he too, will die. This is not a debate that will be won by words. It is a matter of self-defense, or submission and death.

#54 Wrong. “The Melting Pot” would be the correct thing here. Multiculturalism is the opposite of what America was or should be. Embodied by our old national motto, “E Pluribus Unum” – one nation from many different peoples. Multiculturalism rests on the concept of a country with various people occupying space within it. It rejects the idea of America.
