  • Feeding a family on food stamps would be ridiculously easy if they restricted their purchases to the same things that working poor families do: less expensive cuts of meat, eggs, fruits and vegetables, flour, sugar, spices, etc. It’s when you start buying expensive meats, frozen dinners, cookies, cereals, candy, chips, and other processed foods that the bill may get too high. A simple food budget would work wonders for these folks, and they wouldn’t have any difficult in feeding themselves on the food stamp allowance.

  • We saw the same ineptness after Katrina when a Wal-Mart truck full of water was turned away and when volunteers were told to go home.

Imagine if Gov. Blanco had called all state troopers to New Orleans for security and rescue. She could have called in all game wardens with their boats, chainsaws, and axes. She could have invited in volunteers with party barges to rescue those trapped. Instead, she sat on her hands and wouldn’t even invite FEMA in for several days. Consequently, Bush got the blame for the disastrous efforts to rescue people when it was sheer bureaucratic ineptitude.

Why are there such long lines for gasoline in NY and NJ? Why are generators not at ALL of the gas stations without power? Why are gasoline trucks from outside the states not being ordered in? Why are Army gasoline trucks from Fort Dix not being used?

NY citizens should judge Bloomberg on how he handles this disaster. Unfortunately, liberals believe that talking about a problem solves it.

  • It’s amazing to me that so many Jews keep supporting the Democrat party and allying themselves with such ignorant trash as are found in this story. It’s not just Israel that they’re against; it’s all Jews! When are Jews going to wake up?

  • It should be noted that jet fighters were only a couple of hours away and, simply by flying low over the attackers, would probably have dispersed them and interrupted the attack. Since the former Seals were also “painting” the mortar positions with lasers, a couple of well-placed rockets could have knocked them out. It was absolutely disgraceful that no planes were launched and that bureaucrats sat on their butts and let it happen. I could almost guarantee that George Bush wouldn’t have sat there without making any effort to save those folks.

The same mentality is at work in NY and NJ where Hurricane Sandy struck. Even though they had nearly a week of warning, no adequate preparations were made to see after the folks affected. How difficult is it to get generators to service stations without electricity so they can pump gas? How difficult is it to route gasoline tankers from other areas into the stricken parts of those states? How many Army gasoline tankers are there within 500 miles? How much water does Wal-Mart have within 100 miles? How many MRE’s (Meals, Ready to Eat) does the Army have on hand within a reasonable distance?

No, the problem is that government folks want to hold meetings and discuss things, then appoint committees to study the problem. They want to take bids on needed items when people are freezing and dying. FEMA should be reduced by 90% and the functions taken over by the states. You just can’t depend on the federal government.

  • This information has to be correct. After the capture of the Pueblo in 1968 by the North Koreans, the CritiCom system was put into place to notify the President within 30 minutes of a critical incident anywhere in the world. I worked under that system from 1969 to 1973.

With all the improvements in communications since 1973, there’s no way the President didn’t know about the attack. I can’t think of any valid reason that no response was made to the situation that resulted in 4 American deaths.

  • You are correct about the food stamp cards. It’s obvious when they’re being used and those of us who have to work to eat are getting a little tried of seeing their buggies piled high with the best cuts of meat, frozen dinners, pizzas, cookies, chips and candy while we are having to make do.

My solution to part of the deficit is to cut the food stamp allowance in half while, at the same time, restricting purchases to lower priced cuts of meat, fresh fruits and vegetables, flour, sugar, etc. They would still be able to eat well. They’d just have to cook. Those who are truly in need would still appreciate getting what they do. Those who are gaming the system would be the ones screaming.

This solution would also appeal to Michelle since she’s so concerned about what people eat. We have the fattest poor people in the world!

  • Herschend Family Entertainment is another Christian based company. They operate theme parks including Silver Dollar City in Branson, Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Stone Mountain in Georgia and many other venues. Last year, their current CEO, Joel Manby, appeared on the Undercover Boss television show.

I had the privilege to work for the Herschend family for five seasons durng my college years, and I’ve always cherished those times with them. Although they didn’t close on Sundays, they always made allowances for employees to attend church if they wished to do so. Jack and Peter Herschend and their wives, Sherry and JoDee were unfailingly kind and generous to those of us who worked for them, and their methods of running a company have made them tremendously successful. They are the primary reason that Branson retains its family atmosphere.

There are plenty of Christian based companies out there. Most just don’t get the kind of publicity that Chick Filet us getting.

  • Having double the number of backup generators than would actually be needed should do the trick. They need to be test-run on a regular basis to make sure there are no mechanical or electrical problems.

Note that two of the three failed generators in the story were at Tennessee Valley Authority facilities that are run by the Federal government. Coincidence?

  • New EPA regulations are about to go into effect that will cause the shutdown of a large number of coal plants in the U.S. resulting in something like a 20% reduction in our supply of electricity nationwide. There WILL be rolling blackouts and brownouts in just about every locale.

If I ran one of the electric companies, I’d have a database of names and addresses of all those who have vocally opposed the construction of new plants, including politicians. When the time for rolling blackouts comes, those people should be the first ones to lose their power and the last ones to regain it. Maybe then they would begin to understand what happens when you oppose every form of electric generation that is at all practical.

Of course, Al Gore should be at the top of every utilities list, so wherever he goes, he’ll experience blackouts firsthand.

  • George Bush got a lot of blame for FEMA failing to act quickly enough after Katrina hit New Orleans. The truth is that Governor Blanco didn’t declare a state of emergency and ask for FEMA help for 3 days. In the meantime, she and the NO mayor didn’t do a thing to help people who were stranded there.

Imagine having a whole state under your control and doing nothing while people were dying, trapped in homes and stranded at the Superdome. She could have easily called all game wardens to report to NO with their boats, chain saws, and axes. She could have called all state police there to maintain order. She could have called for volunteers with party barges to participate in getting people out. Imagine how many private boats there are in South Louisiana! She could have requisitioned tents, generators, ice makers, water trucks, and survivalist food rations fron wherever they could be found.

Instead, Governor Blanco did the typical politician thing: she called meetings and discussed the problems. She tried to follow government procedures when they should be the first things set aside during a life-and-death emergency.

When emergencies happen, true leaders take charge and make things happen. They cut through the red tape and enlist the help of anyone willing if it means saving lives, and they don’t worry about possible lawsuits or how their actions may be reflected in the polls.
