  • I think those who continuously point out the absurdity of the public defending itself with small arms against a government with the resources of the military are correct and making a larger point that most do not recognize. Those who oppose the Second Amendment and even those who want it restricted will make the argument that the Founding Fathers could not have known about automatic weapons and therefore the 2nd amendment does not apply to these types of weapons. This line of thinking is disingenuous and misleading. If all agree the 2nd amendment is there to protect the people from a tyrannical government then the mindset of the Founders was that the people should be as well armed as the government. IF an exception was intended, then where is the exception restricting private ownership of a cannon? Yes it is absurd to think that the arms available to the public could stand against the resources of the military precisely because exceptions were created by the Supreme Court.
In creating the disparity between the arms of the people vs. the arms of the government, the government has changed the bases of the conversation. The government disarmed the people with the first restrictions placed on the types of weapons that could be in the hands of the public. The more restrictions that are placed on gun ownership the more the disparity will grow and the ability to defend ourselves against anyone or anything will shrink.
In the end, the answer is the people. We need a

  • Now things start to look a little differently. The only possibility for gun control is for the public to be so stupid they cannot operate a computer. It would seem the only option available is for the liberals to start issuing “Concealed Carry Permits for Brains”. Background check to go to school. Permission to get an education. Restrictions on what you are allowed to learn. It’s easy to see now why the progs have been taking control of the education system.
As for the complaints on gun barrels or other parts that cannot be made out of plastic, it is only a matter of time until someone comes up with a printable materal that answers that issue. See a need, fill a need. Of course if you combine the permit for brains with outlawing the free market and capitalism….

  • So let me get this straight
“We’re an over-armed nation helping gun makers get richer by believing blatant lies that the government is plotting to take away our guns, and believing the myth that we’re protecting and not endangering ourselves.”
The government is not plotting to take our guns way but is attempting to ban so-called “assault weapons”… in what reality does this make any sense? Banning guns is not taking guns away.? This is the mentality that makes it impossible to have a real discussion on anything.

  • CD – First I hate it when people make blanket statements about how everyone agrees with this point or that, how their position is supported by all. Speak for yourself, if others agree it is their right to do so as it is their right to disagree. We have the right of Free Speach but that does not give you the right to speak for others.
Second, I don’t think that I could support the overthrow, attempted overthrow, or any action to change (fundamentally transfrom) our country. I do however wish to support and protect the country I love and the principals in which it was founded, the principals that made the US the greatest country that ever existed and likely to exist. This is a responsibility that we should all should take very seriously. What you think I need or do not need is irrelevant, and in the context of the Bill of Rights and the 2nd amendment, it is a Right given to me by God and protected by the Constitution. IF people disagree, enough people, there is a method to address this, the amendment process for the Constitution. Simply have enough States agree with what you think I need or do not need and then we can talk. Until that happens, the Right and Responsibility of the 2nd Amendment is there for the people.

  • Was there something missing from Cain’s Response or did Santorum put words in his mouth. There seems to be a big jump from what was reported that Cain said and a comment on pro abortion. Cain – “The government shouldn’t be trying to tell people everything to do, especially when it comes to social decision that they need to make” is not a statement supporting abortion. What about adoption?

  • This is not so much about keeping guns out of your hands as it is about keeping guns out of your children’s hands or even their children’s hands. Boil a citizen one degree at a time. Are we done yet?

  • Maybe she was reffeing to the government’s current plan to start a war in the middle east as their way to “step in” and create jobs.
