  • Actually, David Bowie loved this cover. It’s very faithful to the original, even with a few changed lyrics. I’ve listened to the original many times and while I feel that Bowie did a great job on it, it is sad because Major Tom knows something had gone dreadfully wrong and he would die in orbit. This new version, though, speaks to the positive side of being in the ISS as well as the emotions involved with leaving his friends and comrades behind for that long trip down. It’s certainly not like a space shuttle landing, from what I’ve seen, the Soyuz touchdown is rough.

I’m glad that they all made it home safely…or that song would have been not one of the joy of flight.

  • I guess FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION really is dead in this country when a waitress is immediately fired for posting something of interest…even if the waitress posted a snide comment of her own which was probably the truth. Wait staff always gets the short end of the min wage stick and are forced to rely on tips to make ends meet. This is another reason why, IMHO, wait staff deserves equal treatment when it comes to minimum wage. If the guy taking your fast food order at McD’s can get minimum wage, yet the waitress busting her back at Applebee’s only gets $2.75 an hour + Tips, something’s really wrong. They can afford to give their wait staff a decent LIVING wage, not early 1980s wages.

People shouldn’t tolerate this sort of discrimination in wages nor visit any establishment that immediately fires an employee for posting stuff online.

  • Something that the President ignored: The 10th Amendment (States’ rights). The constitution is SILENT on the matter of secession, therefore, it’s a matter that the states can determine as that power is delegated to the “several states”. So, if they wanted to secede, they technically could and Washington couldn’t do much about it. Even if the SCOTUS said otherwise, that flies in the face of the 10th Amendment which certainly predates the Civil War. The folks in Washington need to remember that.

  • Here’s a quickie thought: The Feds say “No right to secede,” correct? Well, gee, the colonies seceded from the Crown and had to fight to get King George to say “Fine. You want to be on your own. Good luck.”

Would this give the Queen the right to rescind our independence, saying “They had no right to secede in the first place”?

OK, I know this is not going to happen ever between England and the USA, seeing we patched things up decades ago and that there is a close friendship between the UK and USA. However, it stands to reason that we had to force the break in the first place, and, that while the first Civil War was fought in the mid-19th Century, if Obama doesn’t care about individual freedoms as he’s required to, he’s no better than King George was in 1770.

One of these years, there will be such a split within this country that there will be a second Civil War fought with modern weapons, not cannons and bayonets. Those states which voiced a desire to peacefully leave the Union, if there was a strong enough groundswell, could decide to secede regardless. It would be like Georgia wanting to leave Russia or what’s happening in Syria who is in the middle of a civil war of their own in terms of the fight that the Feds would use to prevent several states from leaving the Union. And, if the Feds get desperate, you think they wouldn’t resort to bombing a state capital off the map. They would certainly do that if it meant maintaining the union.

  • I, for one, am SICK of hearing about this “Foundation” sticking their noses into things religious. They are the bane of modern society and completely out of touch with the INTENT of the Separation Clause. The intent was to prevent the Government from ESTABLISHING a state sponsored religion. That’s why there is no “Church of the United States” like there’s a Church of England.

But, these morons are ignoring the second aspect here…”and the FREE exercise thereof.” That means in one’s home, in a church building, a PUBLIC building, or even on public grounds.

And, yet, Christians are giving ground. Ever hear of fighting for one beliefs? We have to push back and support places that allow prayer to happen. If not…Then prayer, even in one’s place is in danger…As the Phoenix area pastor sitting in Sherriff Joe’s Tent City.

  • Another MASS school trying to be Politically Correct in the state where a very non-PC Act occured right in Boston Harbor. Yes, I refer to the Boston Tea Party where people opposed to the actions of the king of England decided to dump lots of tea into the harbor. One of the flashpoints in the American Revolution was right there and not at all “PC” or “polite” or anything else related to appeasing some thin skinned moron’s delicate sensibilities.

But, now, I’m waiting for the day when the border signs say “The People of Massachusetts Welcome You…Where Political Correctness is not only tradition, IT’S THE LAW!”

  • FYI, PETA also snuck in a brick at PETCO Park. Here’s the blurb from the PETCO Park entry on Wikipedia:

“During the construction of the stadium, the (San Diego) Padres offered fans the chance to purchase bricks outside of the concourse and to dedicate them.

Soon after this, PETA attempted to purchase a brick to protest Petco’s treatment of animals (PETA and Petco have a long-standing dispute over this matter), but the first two attempts were denied. Undeterred, PETA succeeded on its third attempt by purchasing a brick which read “Break Open Your Cold Ones Toast The Padres Enjoy This Champion Organization.” When one reads the first letter of each word, it forms an acrostic which reads “BOYCOTT PETCO.” The Padres decided to leave the brick there, saying not enough people walking by would notice the secret meaning.”

Wonder how many other stadiums have hidden PETA bricks??
