  • I agree that the email ALONE doesn’t seem like much of a threat.

What the general media and many on this comment board seem to be missing is the CONTEXT of the email. This email was sent after Mr. Woodward was verbally attacked by Gene Sperling, the writer of the email.

Apparently, Mr. Sperling “yelled” at Mr. Woodward for “a half-hour” over the phone because he was reporting unfavorably on President Obama. In my opinion, this email feels designed to read like an apology while functioning as a “CYA” move by Mr. Sperling. Rather than saying “I’m sorry – I behaved badly and apologize for that” this email goes into detail about policy, history, etc. defending Obama’s actions and parroting liberal talking points.

Keeping in mind Mr. Woodward is a liberal with close ties to the White House, this probably shook him up quite a bit and clearly left him upset and very uncomfortable. It is clearly understandable that he would see an implied threat in the softer words of the email WHEN TAKEN IN CONTEXT with the verbal attack heaped upon him by its writer.

  • They forgot tip #11:

“If you think you’re being followed, FART with loud authority.”

  • In many families it’s traditional for girls to not have a “middle” name at birth. Rather, the woman’s maiden name becomes her “middle” name upon marriage. This is NOT the same as a hyphenated name. This actually reflects a more traditional, respectful approach to a woman’s family heritage.

That said . . . please consider this NO defense of Hilary Clinton – i.e. Barbara Pierce Bush’s family also followed the tradition. There’s plenty wrong with the Clinton alpha female, but her name’s not one of ‘em.

  • Keep ‘em coming, Joe! Spent my youth bird hunting so I have plenty of experience with shotguns. While I do agree a 12 gauge is great for home protection (less penetration, and heck – who wants to have to actually AIM at an intruder in the middle of the night?), an AR-15 is much easier to handle – no question!

In fact, it’s one of my kid’s favorite firearms. Maybe it’s because it uses the same caliber ammo as her favorite hunting rifle. Did I mention she’s a very petite – and accurate – teenager? You know, a future woman? Much easier to handle than a 12 gauge shotgun. I preferred using a 20 gauge back in the days when I was a very petite future woman. Less recoil and more bird left for dinner.

Keep talking Joe. As the great Bill Engvall says . . . “Here’s your sign.”

  • Yep. Took most of us several seconds to figure that out. The mockers still think they did something clever. Pretty much says it all, doesn’t it???

  • Oooh . . . I think you’re on to something here. We’ll know for sure if the gov’t acts to take over the hoho and twinkie supply like they did GM!

  • I ‘m from WA and voted all conservative – and AGAINST legalized pot. Why? Because I knew stupid and irresponsible people would take legalization as license to be freely stupid and irresponsible.

Real story – I was in a store in Puyallup today when a glassy-eyed young woman stumbled right into me. She smelled like a bong and was clearly baked. She was shopping alone, and I prayed this idiot didn’t drive to get there. I hear it’s worse in Seattle. Saw some of this yesterday when I drove downtown to visit a pal who just had surgery. Don’t know if they were high, but had to dodge several dazed-looking guys (in separate incidents) stepping without warning off the sidewalk into traffic.

I don’t hate pot or pot smokers, and think it’s a shame pain sufferers are forced into pharmaceuticals instead of using marijuana. I also don’t have any objection to adults using the stuff in the safety and privacy of their own homes. Ha ha – that’s how we used to do it. Comfy places to curl up and lots of food nearby :-)

Clearly the police are set on not enforcing elements of the law that keep idiots from annoying or endangering others. You gotta be kidding – don’t bother people getting high in public? Another stupid thing is legalizing weed but not letting individuals grow a limited amount for their own personal use. Wonder how long before the “driving while baked” fatalities start to pile up.

  • Ummm . . . anyone ever stumble upon UK television shows marketed to teens and pre-teens? It’s stunning that they have a problem with imaginary “gun porn” but apparently aren’t bothered at all by REAL porn spoon-fed to their children as entertainment.

Heaven help them should any of their children need to fend for themselves one day. They’ll have no clue how to fill their tables, but will likely know what drugs and perversions to indulge in to forget their problems.

  • No, it’s about the city telling a legally zoned venue that they cannot rent to a Christian organization for their events. The building is a concert venue that is renting its space for weekly church services and music. The issue at hand is whether or not the city can dictate who the concert venue can do business with, and if it is OK for the city to force them to discriminate against Christian organizations.

The building in question is not a church, it is a tax-paying business accepting payment for a Christian service/concert event each week. This arrangement was always meant to be temporary, and it does not appear that the church has any presence in the building outside of its paid-for events.

It’s commercial building doing commerce hosting events that just happen to be Christian :-)

  • Again, this is NOT a church. This is an EVENTS venue that is holding church services on a temporary basis until a proper, permanent CHURCH can be purchased or built.

The issue here is whether or not the city has the right to dictate to a properly located, operating EVENTS VENUE that they are prohibited from allowing Christian events.

Really, what is the difference between renting out their legal venue to the same parties on a weekly, monthly, yearly, etc. basis? Does this mean that this venue cannot, say, rent out their building for a monthly fruit and flower show because it is zoned “not agricultural”? The farmers don’t have their fields there, but it’s probably just fine for them to show, sell or teach their products/knowledge to the public. It’s the same with Mars Hill – they are simply holding their weekly events there. It’s not their permanent home, and they do not keep permanent offices there. The church does that in many of their satellite venues all across the county – that’s how permanent churches are eventually planted.
