you took the words right out of my mouth. They can do their own music fest. Nugent and Metallica and Madison Rising with the Lt Dan Band thrown in for good measure–would be a great July 4th celebration! All proceeds to go to Veterans medical expenses

I remember in the early, mid 70′s we could get AM WLS Chicago on clear nights. That may not seem so odd except for the fact we are in the far southwest tip of Indiana (about a 7hour drive to Chicago). Cant get any AM radio in the house anymore–too much other interference in the atmosphere.

As a Catholic, I wonder the same thing about Nancy Pelosi. She doesn’t follow the teachings of the Catholic Church and yet i wonder how many priests and bishops have told her not to receive Communion unless she REPENTS of her sins (abortion, contraception, etc). Maybe the leaders are telling them but they a) are not listening, or b) do not even go to their respective services/masses. Kathleen Sebelious was told she could not receive Communion as long as she supported abortion and contraception. Now, the question is, is she following that? And it really ticks me off that Obama gave Nancy the blessed rosary from the Pope. Nancy just received the Margaret Sanger award. Anyone receiving the Margaret Sanger award does not respect life and the dignity of every person and should not be calling themselves Catholic. She says she represents us, but I don’t know any practicing Catholic who believes or supports Pelosi.

With all the money we have given to the UN and UNICEF over the years, supposedly for helping build up medicine in 3rd world countries, and they still dont have adequate medical care? Not surprised. Have known for a long time that the UN misuses money. Many have been saying it and it bears repeating: US out of the UN and UN out of the US.

Many of us are thinking the same thing….this was the norm when i grew up in the 70′s. Why is it so uncommon that it make the news? Sigh…

Saving lives?? How about the women who commit suicide or become alcohol or drug dependent because they cant deal with the fact that they killed their own child? How are their lives saved?

Living in SW Indiana (which has 2 different time zones), it really stinks that we can’t have fireworks until almost 10pm on July 4th. No reason we should be on the same time as New York (21 hours away) and not St. Louis (4 hours away). Not to mention that it is unsafe for children waiting for the bus in the dark on school mornings.

For some people, this is our downtime. I work 2 jobs, 6 days a week, and Sunday is my free day. I go to mass early morning with Dad, then go to his house in the afternoon. We watch football, cook dinner, talk politics and generally relax. Now that football is over, we will watch college basketball. And we do not have our heads in the sand. But, like you (in your comment below) I do not watch very many movies, or listen to music of certain genres so i am with you on that. i don’t even own a tv (best decision i ever made).

and was anybody really buying her “belief” in the Founders and their ideals? The reading was great up to that point. They should have just had the athletes and soldiers and left her out of it. My dad is a Korean vet and a strong patriot and those two ladies ruined it for him (and many other people).

Shannon Watts you only want to shut down Dana because you know her knowledge and sound arguments will prove you wrong. I dont own a tv, but if i did i would watch that wretched show just to see Dana silence all those girls. You know she will bring it. i stand with Dana.

We wonder the same thing. Kathleen Sebelius was told by her Bishop she could no longer receive Communion as long as she supported abortion. Whether or not she, or any other pro-choice politician, still go to Church and receive Communion is anybody’s guess. I think, but do not know, that they only use the Catholic label to garner more votes. Any Catholic who knows the teachings of the Church does not vote for these people. Unfortunately, there are not enough of us in their districts to overcome the votes of the pro-choicers and uninformed voters. My own community (many Catholics and Protestants) has many democrats, but if you talk to them and watch how they live, they are very conservative, both fiscally and socially. They only vote democrat because their parents, grandparents and great-grandparents did. I dont understand it either.

Not all people who call themselves Catholics are actually practicing. Some were raised in the Church but now only attend on Christmas and Easter. We were not properly cathechized in the 1970′s, so many from this generation dont know the teachings of the Church. Practicing Catholics, and those of us who have come back, do know the teachings of the Church and we DO vote pro-life and vote AGAINST the likes of Nancy Pelosi. Unfortunately, we are a small number now. The new generation of Catholics coming up (20′s and 30′s and their children) are very strong in their faith and will bring the Church back. In the meantime, please dont judge all Catholics on the basis of Nancy Pelosi types. God Bless and have a great week!

Planned Parenthood gives millions of (our tax) dollars to other countries for “women’s reproductive health”‘ including birth control and abortions. (this info can be found in their public record tax returns in case you’re interested) Obviously, Planned Parenthood isnt doing a very good job of teaching how to use those items. Promoting contraception and giving it to people has done NOTHING to bring down the number of abortions. 50 million children have been aborted since 1973 (in the US alone), even though birth control is readily available EVERYWHERE.

They may not be actually possessed but they can be tormented and even physically hurt. See St John Vianney and St Padre Pio (a 20th century priest) for starters. Also check out the visionaries of Garabandal, Spain (a supposed visitation by the Blessed Virgin Mary which the Catholic Church has NOT approved). These children were Catholic but due to some things they did during the supposed visions (running backwards uphill, bodies bending unnaturally) there is suspicion that it could be a demonic activity. The devil will most certainly attack Christians because he wants to get more souls in his army, as it were, and he thinks it’s even better if he gets a Christian, hence his torments of nuns and priests. Dont think just because you are Christian that you are safe from his temptations and his torments. Satan is the great deceiver and one of his deceptions is to make you think you are completely safe from him. Pray constantly and keep yourself close to God because Satan is everywhere and can attack when you least expect it. A good book is “True or False, Demonic Possession?” by Jean Lhermitte, edited by Aaron Kheriaty, MD. It is not biased toward any religion, but rather lays out some cases and shows how they were decided to be possession, mental illness, fake, or still undecided. Just as much God exists, so does the devil. You have a guardian angel, could you not also have a demon trying for your soul?

doxy, i am not trying to justify what they did. It was wrong period. But if you read the article cited above you would see that they tried to “rehab” them, just as they tried to “rehab” people of other occupations who committed the same crimes. The thought at the time (in the medical world) was that sex offenders could be rehabilitated, which we now know is not true. And since the offenders were not reported, many of the upper management (Archbishops, Cardinals the Pope), as it were, did not know of the problem. If you are a manager of a huge factory with thousands of workers, do you think you would know what is going on with every employee of every minute of every day? No, you would not, unless lower management or other employees reported it. You cannot hold the whole Church responsible as many Archbishops, Cardinals, and even the Pope did not know what was going on unless it was reported. It is the same in schools. Unless someone reports the abuse, no one knows about and cannot act on it. The Church has very rigorous rules now. If you are employed by a church or are a volunteer at one, and you suspect abuse you are REQUIRED to report it. We have to sign a waiver that we will do such. This is a stain on the Church, but it is taking many precautions to prevent such things from happening and if, God forbid, it does happen, the priest is investigated by law enforcement just like any other crime. BTW, the victims are paid off because they sue for the money.
