Church vs. State: Atheist Furor Rages Over School Trip to Church’s Production of ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’
November 26, 2012 at 4:39pm
No doubt some folks of faith (or, more correctly, religion) need to be reigned in from time to time, also. Back when the story came out of VA regarding intrusive probes for women seeking abortions, I made it very clear I was not on board with state-mandated intrusions.
Per this story, no one is forcing anyone to do anything. Seems like some folks can’t resist imposing their own morals (and fears) upon others, secular or religious.
If and when the zealots (Christian, Muslim, what have you) wanna flex their muscle beyond the pale, I’ll gladly stand with you against the militant Bible thumpers or Koran tyrants.

majasdad,
So according to your logic, the U.K. backlash against the EU would also be based on ignorance & an inability to know when to shut up? With the U.K. allegedly not wanting to defer to the EU, those “ultra right wing/tea party/creationist nut jobs etc.” are worthy of nothing but laughing contempt, yes?
As a matter of full disclosure, I’m not a partisan & find some of the Tea Party’s message inconsistent. However, your routine (the enlightened, dismissive prog fluffing up what amounts to an ad hominem attack) isn’t exactly novel. I’d say (based on my experience) that’s pretty darn predictable.
I’d say (as a libertarian) the one thing that doesn’t set well with many Americans is the idolizing of a political figure. Europe has a history of showing why a collective is not wise in embracing any one man as THE ANSWER.
Do I see this display as dangerous? Nah… foolish, but, for now, Obama has his four more years & then it will be some other schmuck. That’ll make it easier to know who to credit for any perceived boons… & who to blame for foul ups while the Big O as at the helm.
I’m just wondering: Does your self-professed enlightenment negate all others who do not believe as you? See, that’s when and where you and your ilk become predictable. It also indicates a level of intolernace that is fueled by nothing more than your belief in your own greatness.
Your argument amounts to you’re better because you say you are. Proof is lacking.
Church vs. State: Atheist Furor Rages Over School Trip to Church’s Production of ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’

Well, when the school is loading up the bus to go see a production of “Inherit the Wind”, we can deal with the intolerant busybodies from that end of the spectrum who personally feel threatened or slighted. It appears that, for now, it’s the intolerant busybodies from the secular end who need to be addressed for their intolerance and fears.
Can you suggest an apolitical, agnostic production that would please all? How about a play based on the instructions for putting a piece of cheap, pressboard furniture together?
These stories tend to prove Harry Callahan’s theory on opinions.
Church vs. State: Atheist Furor Rages Over School Trip to Church’s Production of ‘A Charlie Brown Christmas’

The 20th Century showed us that you don’t need a war to kill your own people; secular regimes that deny religion and the value of the individual can kill their own quite effectively. For the good of… something? Gotta break a few eggs, yes?
I’m not a religious person, but I am a person of faith. I’m not a historian, but I do try to study and learn from it. To assert secularism is guilt free and leads to the betterment of the human condition is as foolish as denying that politics, greed and hubris have never infected ALL religions at one time or another.
How the hell can you take anyone who fears Charlie Brown seriously? Good grief. Besides, I’m sure somewhere in the Peanuts gang is a token atheist. My money is on Marcie… or Snoopy’s brother, Spike.

If you can opt out (as is expressly addressed by the school) there is no violation of religious freedom.
Note the logic argument being used here: It’s not good enough that the school addressed the event may not be to the liking of some parents and ‘concerned’ busybodies; the recognition of the discomfort and the subsequent plan to allow students to remain at school is being repackaged as an emotional slight that amounts to (SHOCKING this claim was trotted out) discrimination.
So giving people an option to choose isn’t good enough. This is clearly an emotional issue for the detractors. There is no room for compromise or tolerance.
Funny how the vociferous cranks amongst the atheists can’t be consistent with their moments of high dudgeon. Odd how so many schools continue to impose Muslim rites upon non-Muslim students in public schools (e.g., numerous times in CA). Where are these U.S. Constitutional champions then? Time to start parsing ALL history and plays. No mention of the Christian faith in plays, history, or novels will be tolerated. Time to remove any reference to all presidents who dare refer to God.
I’m pretty sure all atheists aren’t intolerant cranks. Just as all Muslims aren’t murderous zealots. It’s just that the nuts in any collective tend to want to make others conform to them. Oddly enough, it does appear the more sane atheists are as disgusted with their whiny brethren as the general populaton. Can activists be shamed?
Florida Spends $45K on ‘Incredibly Offensive and Invasive’ Survey of Women’s Sex Lives
November 26, 2012 at 3:14pm
You may be as crazed as the busybody bureaucrats who were using their crude little instrument to justify what I suspect was a play for more money. The argument that EVERYONE is doing it is as lazy (and old) as those whining, “It’s worse than it has ever been!!!”

Not sure what is supposed to be so shocking here (other than this venture only cost $45,000). You have bureauracrats holding the purse strings and the one thing bureaucrats have to do from time to time is justify there existence. You get your food, power, health care, phone, shelter, etc. from the gubment? In the minds of many a bureaucrat (and their political taskmasters and like-minded ideological defenders), you are now a subject of the state who has no secrets… for you own good, of course.
What’s REALLY funny with bureaucrats is they’d arguably use any informantion gained to come up with a “one size fits all” approach to providing services. Gubment isn’t exactly too keen on putting much effort into recognizing thralls as individuals.
The purpose was to “help them understand women’s need for family-planning services.” Translation: We need to be able to justify our existence and make a budget plea to state reps. Here’s some advice: Look to the DEA… just lie and engage in hyperbole. Screw facts… screw truth. It’s fear that sells.
Florida Woman Faces 60 Days in Jail After Trying to ‘Ride’ Wild Manatee
November 25, 2012 at 2:14pm
Authorities added that the manatee was not physically hurt, but that the “psychological impact” of the encounter would be harder to evaluate, the Tampa Bay Times relates.
This type of statement and this type of article causes psychogical damage to the reading, thinking and voting members of a free country. STOP assuming animals are people and wanna be your friends. That’s about all this gal is guilty of… but the king…er, gubment… has laid claim to all the deer… and the manatees.
Maybe we should get a manatee whisperer on the case. This will require at least tens of millions of taxpayer funds to make sure the manatee’s chi is centered and its chakras are realigned.

Words, actions… Lincoln CANNOT be repackaged as some benevolent ol’ sage just a doin’ what he had to do. Either our rights are inalienable… or, as president, you can jail members of the press, detain political opponents, suspend the right of habeus corpus, and quarter troops where you please.
Lincoln did as he pleased sans so much as a “by your leave.” You can defend the words of a tyrant. Can you defend his actions? In doing so, you may be asserting the gubment is, in the end, your master and the Bill of Rights is a convenient luxury afforded to you on a whim. Lincoln is the father of the federal gubment as we know it today: Arrogant, over-reaching and the end all, be all concern that matters more than the collective and the individual… in my opinion after reviewing Lincoln’s words AND actions.
Lincoln “saved” us by making us less of what we were MEANT to be.
Notice who defends Lincoln rabidly: Authoritarians.
French Environmentalists Squat in Treetops, Clash With Riot Police to Prevent Construction of New Airport
November 24, 2012 at 9:32pm
I had a very good teacher in high school who was also the resident French teacher. The only foolish thing I know that woman to have ever said was, “All good things come from France.”
I don’t really care about France other than to not wish ill upon its people; I’m SURE the feeling is mutual.
I care even less about French hippies, French trees and French airports as long as the U.S. isn’t involved via taxpayer funds. This is a French problem for the Frenchie Frenchmen to workout. And aren’t there two bigger problems that come to mind when considering not only France, but Europe in general?
Hippies. Screwing it up no matter where you go in the developed world. Funny how there are no real African or Asian hippies. I guess hippies are a luxury developing countries can’t always afford.
