May 17, 2012 at 4:08pm
Some stupid f-wad down there seems to think people are making things up about this. Here is a part of the story from the local paper, the Lowell Sun, with a link.
Mark Duffy, who has operated the dairy farm at the state-owned park for 26 years and has a lease with the state to run the stand, said armed Environmental Police officers showed up at stand on Friday evening and stood guard throughout the weekend, turning away customers

ROWGUE Nowhere in any story about this is it stated that environmental police were involved. There is a reference to an environmental police truck being near the entrance to the farm, that’s it.

Calif. Commission Approves Regulations on…Battery Chargers

I mean, its a a sweet thought and everything, but some on – save $1.19 over the lifetime of an electric toothbrush??? How long does one last, 2 or 3 years? I haven’t a clue. Or 20 bucks for a laptop charger? Lifetime of 4 to 5 years for a first owner, another 3 or 4 after that second-hand . . . so maybe 5 bucks a year on a device that cost 500 to a thousand? Busy-work for legislators.

Who Is Mimicking Who? Fish Copies Octopus Known for Copying Other Fish

Octopus:
There are three plural forms of octopus: octopuses [ˈɒktəpəsɪz], octopi [ˈɒktəpaɪ], and octopodes [ˌɒkˈtəʊpədiːz]. Currently, octopuses is the most common form in the UK as well as the US; octopodes is rare, and octopi is often objectionable.[7]
The Oxford English Dictionary[8] lists octopuses, octopi and octopodes (in that order); it labels octopodes “rare”, and notes that octopi derives from the mistaken assumption that octōpūs is a second declension Latin noun, which it is not. Rather, it is (Latinized) Ancient Greek, from oktṓpous (ὀκτώπους), gender masculine, whose plural is oktṓpodes (ὀκτώποδες). If the word were native to Latin, it would be octōpēs (‘eight-foot’) and the plural octōpedes, analogous to centipedes and mīllipedes, as the plural form of pēs (‘foot’) is pedes. …
…
Fowler’s Modern English Usage states that “the only acceptable plural in English is octopuses,” and that octopi is misconceived and octopodes pedantic.
