As far as I’m concerned, this action makes the case against any form of gun registration. Prior to this outrageous act, I was supportive of making sure that gun owners were registered and their backgrounds checked. So much for that – now I’m completely opposed to such a measure.
With regard to the victims of these pompous asses, I wonder how many lives have been put at risk? Did these idiots care that some of these legally-acquired guns were purchased to protect women and their children from their crazy ex-husbands/boyfriends? How many women escaped abusive relationships and planned to testify (or already have testified) and purchased a weapon to protect themselves from their abuser? How many children are now at risk now that their addresses have been published?
These concerns aren’t limited to victims of domestic abuse, either. Some of these folks may be witnesses for the prosecution of violent criminals.
There is absolutely no excuse for what Gannett has done here. If anything, there is now no reason whatsoever in the government having knowledge of the weapons you own or plan to acquire, and we should reverse all requirements for the issuance of permits to carry a concealed weapon.
When the government allows such a travesty to occur without any legal recourse for the victims, then the government has lost it’s credibility altogether. We can police ourselves in these matters.
