How many “normal” kids that were cut from the team don’t get the privilege to wear a varsity jacket. This is similar to stolen valor by wearing a “uniform” that one is not allowed to wear. There would be a different kind of outrage if someone was selling “replica” jackets to anyone that would pay.
It's a shame I had to go this far down into the comments to find one with the right perspective, but yours is the first I found, TJexcite.
At my high school, it was well understood that if you didn't EARN a letter, you didn't wear a letter. In fact, you didn't even think about buying a letter jacket and wearing it even without a letter until you had earned one.
I understand that momma wanted him to feel good -- after all, it's all about the feelings, isn't it? -- but there are other ways to do it without faking or stealing the valor of that which is to be earned.
Sorry TJexcite & brigott. You're comparing apples to oranges. This is not some "let's stroke their egos and give them a trophy for showing up." These are kids who will never have the opportunity to even try out for the team, let alone get cut. The "normal" kids who got cut will have the opportunity to earn their recognition in other fields of endeavors. But these are kids will NEVER receive any recognition as their "normal peers" simply because nature dealt them an unfortunate hand.So why not show a little compassion to a kid who excelled and did his best? Isn't that why the Varsity Letter is given?
Hopefully the Letter is indicative of the character developed from learning how to win with grace and humility, and the hard lessons taught through defeat in spite of giving it everything you had. In that case Michael EARNED a Letter in the realm in which he resides. If, instead, the Letter is merely a status symbol and rite of passage to join an elitist jock clique, then Michael is better off not wearing one. Michael could teach us all about facing defeat in the face of giving it his best because he does it on a daily basis. As such Michael is a winner to the extent his "normal" peers will never attain.
Stolen Valor!? Really? ...good Lord.
@TJexcite & brigott
Stolen valor? ……VALOR? (jaw hits floor) it’s a freeeee king high school letter(yes I have one). Unless you’re a high school jock, jocket, jock groopie, parent of such or college scout, NOBODY cares, especially the taxpayer who paid more for you to play a game than to educate an entire kindergarten class, generally just to hear you whine about not receiving enough tax money.
Put on a uniform and go dodge bullets. Now we’re talking valor!
I have to agree with Brigott. Not everyone earns a varsity letter. Not everyone gets a trophy. I realize this is a special needs student, and I liked someone else's comment that suggested special letters for kids like this one. Their accomplishments are something truly special, and if they can receive some special recognition that would be great. Nevertheless, he didn't earn "this" letter. (Although I wouldn't have been the parent that complained about it either.)
There are a bunch of sports that dont cut people and many kids go out for thos sports to get the letter...it never bothered me even though i had to make my teams...i wouldnt look twice at someone in high school wearing a letter....look the letter proves nothing...how well you play will be known to everyone so why care about who wears what
Wouldn't it be great if the special needs extra curricular basketball team had their OWN letter jackets?
Man, people are wearing replicas of everything nowadays. I remember when people started wearing the real looking professional sports jerseys like hockey jerseys, football jerseys, and such, with the numbers of actual players on them, way before it became the big fad for everyone to wear them. I felt like I could never wear something like that, because I did nothing of the sort to earn the right to wear it. I would have felt like a fake if I attempted to be so bold as to wear one. How different the mindset is today.
I am a retired professional firefighter and see many civilians who get their hands on the same t-shirts and sweaters that are official apparel for wearing on duty at the station, wearing them out in public as if they've earned the right to give the appearance of being a member of our organization. It ticks me off when they think they have the right to wear the same apparel that I do, that I had to go through extensive training, and actually work at the job, and be a part of the department, to wear what they arrogantly claim for their own.
That being said. There are some exceptions to the rule. If one is considered an honorary member due to their philanthropic assistance to our organization who have impacted our department in ways that are beneficial, or someone like this student who we'd like to encourage to be a part of society by lifting them up in a special way that brightens their lives, we have no problems with inviting them into our ranks.

It might be safe to drink but that does mean it tastes good. Urine could be safe to drink but no one drinking it as a warm beverage with supper.
What is the other side of the story. Taking the letter of a 10 year old at face value is not what the whole news story should be based on. Is the father really a racist or just a helicopter parent that is worried about his daughter’s safety at a stranger house. When one does not know the content of character it always falls back to stereotypes. Have the parents even meet.
There is a very valid reason, people use stereotypes.

It would only detrimental to the case if he does not shows up in court to testify or try to testify. If he shows up to court after paying he gets all the money back. The only thing he would be out is the interest to borrow it from a bonds man or a bank. There is no extortion as the court does not get to keep the money if he follows the rules of the bail. If he does not show up even after paying then Dog the Bounty Hunter is sent out to get him as that is when the court keeps the money.
Yeah I understand how bail works and I guess you're right. Perhaps it's just a way for the court to justify keeping him wrongly imprisoned for so long since there is no way in hell he's going to be able to scrape together 50 g's. The guy shouldn't be in jail at all.
With NATIONAL-INTEREST RATES AT ABOUT 1>2%... IT'S STILL A TOSS-UP!! If he keeps the money for any-time at all.... he looses MUCH-MORE in DEPRECIATION!!
"DEPRECIATION"=[27TRILLION$$ in UNFUNDED-MANDATES and NATIONAL DEBT]...and IT RISES BY BILLION$$-A-MINUTE!!

“I like some boys in my class at school but no one likes me back” Could it be that none of them are gay. No heterosexual teen is going to pick a cute “girl with pork and beans” when they can have the real girl, even if she is not “cute”.

Can’t watch the video, does she not have a grave to place the flowers at over the memorial park bench. Maybe next summer the city workers can place a flower bed right beside the bench but avoid treating the park bench as a grave.

Fights like this is what lead to the WWE. No one wants to spend hard earned money live or on a PPV and watch a 14 second fight. They want something that lasts 2 hours. Lets hope the undercards were worth the money. Just think what will happen if Manny Pacquiao gets a good shot in the second round on Floyd Mayweather and the fight of the century with a purse of 200 million is done in 4 minutes there will be riots. That fight will go to the score cards after 12 rounds.
Im not sure who would spend $ on a fake fight, i get you want more bang for your buck though, but its not the competitors fault she did an amazing job

So she has two bottles strapped to her body but they where not explosives because they did not go off. Could it be that the detonator failed and they were not they type to that will explode in a fire. Is anyone in the mob going to be arrested, like the person who brought a tire to a vegetable market.
ever hear of Astrolite? it's a two part liquid explosive that is composed of ammonium nitrate oxidizer and hydrazine rocket fuel.not saying this is what was in the bottles but it could have been a test run for something much bigger. hydrazine expensive and exceptionally poisonous but i doubt the troglodytes really care about that sort of detail

Just surprised the cartels even have a Mexico pot crop anymore when they could set up a industrial size grow op in a blank no name warehouse in America complete with 1 hundred thousand plus plants. Set up a dummy computer server farm company. Then pay taxes and fees as such. The huge utility bill for the lights and water is explained that the servers need power and water to cool. Then they will not have to worry about losing a whole seasons crop in one bust. But then again when they can get all that pot farmed, picked, dried and package for 1000 peso and 30 tortillas it is okay if they lose it. They have another crop somewhere else in Mexico to supply California and smuggle it via a unmarked boarder road.
With all the money they earn from drug trafficking, they don't need public utilities, they could run it all with a diesel generator set.
They are providing employment to Mexicans. Obama is just as concerned for Mexican employment...Just wished he cared about American citizen employment.

If there was no mention of the whopping on the shirt this mother would be called a hero that cares about her child and wants what is best for her. Her having Fs is not what is best for anyone. Why try for C when one should go for B or even an A. The bruises and belt marks will heal yet the lesson from it and having failed school will last forever. It is sad that the mother will get an arrest record that will last forever, but at least her daughter might not get one. When she drops out of school that she failed and can not even get a job pushing a mop with out a high school degree.

Yeah but the crusades and segregation or something.
Discovery would be interesting. Did anyone keep the hook. Was the hook in the flesh of the fish, then how did the hook get into the flesh of the fish. The fish would have had to be swimming along with a hook in his side as one hooks the mouth not the side of the fish.
Love the absolutes being forwarded here. I have on occasion hooked a blue fish on the side of the body when we hit a big school. And there are any number of situations where a hook could be logged in a fish. So given the amount of fish that netted and consumed. It is certain possible for her to find a hook.

Is the NYPD still doing the blue flu slow down. 911 gets the reports of a homicide but it takes 8 hours for two cars to respond and then the detectives and the coroner are in no hurry to say it was a homicide or find the murders as a protest to Comrade Bill De Blasio. Nothing came from the stop of small crimes that fill the city coffers maybe they are fudging the number on homicides and will get to finding the murders eventually and then add to the stat on homicide rates.

I would bet 100 pennies that if the “mother” knew Leo would have Down syndrome he would have been aborted and not even consult the Father before doing it.
It would even more special if her husband died in Vietnam or recently over a divorce but likely he tossed them in the goodwill bin after the divorce. Wonder what he thinks of them being found, never know but lets hope he is happy for her.
