  • The only good thing about these DOJ/press scandals is that some of the mainstream press has finally woken up. Now if we can just get a good percentage of the low information voters to wake up as well.

  • For a part time job, it’s a lot of money. But if it was a full time job, $40,000 isn’t a lot – in the inflated Metro DC area.

  • Greenwald is not some unknown out there. He is a columnist for The Guardian (UK).

Greenwald is a (liberal) civil libertarian – progressive on social issues, has a tendency to blame the U.S.on international issues – however, he is one of the few liberals/progressive commentators these days who is really concerned about the intrusion of the government on freedom. He may have been totally on the Obama train at one point, but he’s been really concerned about this administration for quite some time.

On the minus side, he doesn’t seem to grasp the true nature of radicalized Islam and admit the danger it presents to the U.S. and other nations.

I’m sad to see that he didn’t do his homework on this one. His “evolution” on Obama shows that he truly is concerned about some of the same issues we all are.

  • We love our Rokus. In fact, if BBC America pushed out current episodes of Doctor Who to Hulu Plus, I’d be inclined to dump cable and just keep high speed internet. That’s about the only show we watch consistently that is not available through Hulu or other Roku channels.

  • You’re one of the few people I’ve run into that has been unhappy with your Roku. What was the problem?

  • Some of the models do allow you to attach a USB device. As far as a streaming home media server, have you looked into Plex? It also works with mobile devices.

  • Don’t get me wrong, I think the Apple TV is a good device…but it would have been a GREAT device if only Apple had opened it up to third party apps like their own iOS devices…and Roku. The Apple TV doesn’t have “most” of the major online services – it has eight, three of which are sports, and one is a photo sharing service. The only three things Apple TV has that Roku doesn’t are: 1) access to the iTunes store, 2) Airplay from enabled apps on the iOS devices (nice, but even Amazon’s On Demand video player doesn’t yet work with Airplay), and 3) A YouTube app.

I’ve been extremely happy with my two Roku devices, not only for The Blaze, but also for the variety of other content I can watch. They just added Blockbuster to the pay-on-demand movie services (which also includes Amazon and Vudu). For general subscription based services, they’ve not only got Netflix and Hulu Plus (like Apple TV) but also Amazon Prime. Roku has a lot of classic movie channels – some are junk, but others are fairly nice. They’ve got a ton of channels that show Asian dramas (many of which are very good and have a lot less objectionable content than American tv shows) and anime. They’ve got most of the major music streaming and photo sharing services. They’ve got a Plex client (I’m using my Mac Mini as a Plex server). And of course, they’ve got TheBlaze! One of the few (non-Apple) things they don’t have is YouTube, but there are ways of getting around that (such as the Plex app).

  • The good:
    1) The high ratings reflects a spiritual hunger in this country.
    2) Most of the main/high points were included
    3) God was treated with reverence
    4) Bada– “Book of Eli”-style angels, not wussy metrosexuals in long wihite robes (personally, I thought this was the coolest part of the first episode, even though not traditional).

    The partially good/partially bad
    1) Fairly/somewhat (not completely) accurate to scripture
    2) While many actors looked and sounded like they were from the region, others did not (the Scottish accent on Abraham was rather distracting).

    The not-so-good
    1) Does anyone else think that the show was, well, rather cheesy?
    2) Could have been more biblically accurate.

  • Fashion Week isn’t about what is going to be on the store racks, it’s about creativity and spotting trends. There isn’t much attractive (IMO) in this bunch, but maybe a better evaluation is a look at what was considered a “hit” instead of a miss.

#1 Reminds me too much of a straightjacket
#2 Very pretty colors, but no woman in her right mind would wear a skirt made of fake fur…it would make any woman’s behind look big.
#3 Looks like the strip of fur on the skirt got tacked on by accident
#4 With a slightly different sleeve, this dress might be attractive.
#5 More fake fur, likely one of those trends.
    #6 Devo, anyone?
    #7 Vinyl Raincoat
    #8 Boy George in neutrals
#9 Pretty color and fabric – perhaps a much more modest version as a cocktail dress
#10 Maybe the trend here is the plaid, but I get dizzy just looking at the photo
    #11 Braveheart
    #12 Worst of the late 60s/early 70s
#13 With a little refinement, that could be ready-to-wear
#14 Someone stuck a feather in her braid and that’s significant?
#15 The two pieces work better separately than together
#16 Could be a very attractive maxi dress (not jumpsuit),. Creative extension to color blocking trend, and evokes that 60s/70s influence.
#17 Wearable except for the bad color combo
#18 Also wearable, but not for me
#19 Looks like two different dresses cut up and randomly put back together
#20 Ditto #15. I’d buy that top and wear with solid pants.

  • I have such mixed feelings about this…with the mindset of those in power now this is likely going to be all about control, and messing with parental rights. On the other hand, in most states, parents of mentally ill young adults simply can’t do much when they believe their kids are out of control.
