  • I think some people are looking at this incorrectly. The problem isn’t the girlfriend’s parents. The problem is the law that allows the girlfriend’s parents to do this simply because they don’t like who their daughter is dating. It doesn’t matter why the parents went to the police. If you are 18 and dating someone who is 17 or younger, you can be prosecuted if you engage in any sexual activity. Many young men go through this same problem. They end up in jail and prosecuted as a sexual predator simply because they chose to love someone a year or two younger than them. Unfortunately, this happens all the time. This particular situation is just reaching national attention simply because this is the first time I am aware of that it involves two people of the same sex, so it is easy for people to cry hate and blame others for a problem that is really created by our legal system.

If you want to fix this problem, we need to fix the law. If you think this is unfair for the girl who is in jail, you also need to think it is unfair for all the young men who face a similar fate. Equality comes in many forms. This just happens to be one of them.

  • Wow. And this from a group who would tell you that we need to be careful with our words.

  • “Reports indicate the attack has not yet been categorized as a hate crime, but it remains under investigation.”

How can this not be classified a hate crime from the start? Is it because the victims were white?!? This is obviously a hate crime, and it should be pursued as such. I don’t care what color your skin is, if you attack people for being different than you, you have just committed a hate crime.

  • “some are even pushing the Obama administration to consider changes to the text in light of recent events and an impending battle over new gun control legislation.”

Anyone who supported Obamacare has no right to complain about this provision because it was part of the law. And any politician who voted for the bill should not be allowed to state they were ignorant about this part of the law. If those morons in Washington refuse to read the bills they pass, then it’s their own stupid fault. Learn to read the bills or face the consequences.

  • I think the word moron in the dictionary needs to be updated with a picture of Nancy Pelosi.

  • “They’ll bring it up, and when they bring it up they will ask for repeal, repeal of all the things I said that help children, help young adults, help seniors, help men or women who may have prostate cancer, breast cancer, whatever it is, any precondition.”

I’m sorry Nancy, but until Obamacare fully goes into affect, I don’t think you can actually claim that the “Affordable Health Care” act will truly help all the people on your list. During a budget crisis, I forsee people who have prostate cancer or breast cancer being told they have to wait for treatment or being denied treatment because it is not cost effective. That is why some people want to repeal Obamacare because they, like myself, worry about situations like this occurring.

  • Here is an idea. If this student was able to get some groups to back her up on fighting the banner, why couldn’t other students in the school ask for help from people as well and take this fight all the way to the supreme court if it needs to be.

By the way, I always love how people who don’t believe in God are always referenced as “free thinkers” because it is an obvious jab at those who believe in God. These people actually think that just because you believe in a God that you cannot think freely. Really? I know some amazing scholars here in Utah who are very religious, and could probably outthink these so called “free thinkers.”

  • ChrisGil17 has put a lot of comments on here quoting talking points from the left, which I honestly don’t have a problem with, but I do have a few questions and comments about the points he/she has made.

“Actually the Unemployment rate in December was the lowest since 2004.”

Unemployment is higher now than it was in January 2009 as noted in the graphic. Where are you getting your numbers?

“You say he is to blame for all this unemployment when fact is he inherited a problem that the Republicans caused.”

I think most would agree the country was on a bad track already when Obama took over. However, shouldn’t that have turned around under Obama if his policies are indeed the correct ones? Having a higher unemployment rate now than when Obama took office doesn’t exactly back up the argument that Obama’s policies are any better than the Republicans.

“He has passed healthcare saving thousands.”

Most people that I talk to tell me that their healthcare rates have gone up since the passing of Obamacare to compensate for the increased coverage required under the new law. I honestly don’t have any personal experience in this because I don’t have health care insurance.

“Helped our Veterans. Helped women get fair and equal pay.”

Do you have actual sources backing up these two statements? They sound good, but where are the facts? Furthermore, I was unaware that women weren’t getting a fair share or equal pay because they do everywhere I have work

  • Is it impossible for Jay Carney to ever answer with a simple yes or no? His responses always sound so sleazy.

  • It’s really sad that with all the problems in the world, this 16-year-old girl has decided that she is going to keep fighting against God and pushing her belief (or is it non-belief?) onto others. Isn’t there more important things to be worried about than a school displaying a banner that has a (gasp, do I dare say it?) prayer written on it? OH NO! Not a prayer!

People like her offend me, so can she be removed from the school too? I’m sick and tired of atheists who have to be offended by every little thing that mentions God or Heaven.
