  • God Bless Carmen. She is a Vermonter in the truest sense of the word – strong, independent, resilient. May she continue to heal and grow stronger. With those who think her ex got off easy – I couldn’t agree more. He got a slap on the wrist, nothing more. Where is the justice?

I was born in VT nearly 57 years ago and I all I can say is the VT I grew up in is not the VT I am living in now. I used to be able to say “I’m a Vermonter” and feel pride; now all I feel is embarrassment, sadness and longing for times gone by. My staunch Republican grandparents are turning over in their graves – they would not recognize their beloved state anymore. Our family has talked many times about moving south or to the mid-west, but we are loath to pull our kids from the amazing Christian school they are in. We remain vigilant and if things continue to go downhill, well, perhaps we’ll need to muster the courage to go . . . God help us all.

  • I pray that this dear man is vindicated and his First Ammendment rights are upheld. My first thought when I read the headline . . . I”m going to Oregon to buy a cake from this man! As a private business owner, he has every right to serve whatever clientele he chooses, and knows his business will succeed or fail based on his choices. I wonder if this mom and daughter, and for that matter many gay couples, intentionally insinuate themselves upon small businesses with the sole purpose of being able to cry ‘discrimination’ and close them down? Seems like we’re hearing more and more cases of small businesses being targeted and under attack by homosexual couples who are trying to push their weight and agenda around. Vermonters had civil unions/gay marriage forced on us by our uber-liberal legislature so I feel for this man. I’m ashamed to be a Vermonter and if we could manage, I’d move my family out of this cesspool. The entire east coast is becoming a modern-day Sodom and Gamorrah and I fear for us. I pray that this man and his family stand strong against the onslaught and end up being even more prosperous than they had imagined. This man’s children should be very proud to have a dad who has backbone and principles.

  • Had to comment to searcher619- I imagine that you are very thankful that your mother didn’t think of you as “just a fetus”! Clearly her wisdom did not genetically transfer to her child . . . just sayin’.

  • What I find questionable is the daughter releasing this to the public. Clearly this was meant to be personal and now she will have her 15 minutes of fame. We are all given the opportunity to make of our lives what we want – good upbringing, bad upbringing, life choices, etc. My 3 children grew up with a single mom who raised them without child support, their father was absent for 10 years of their lives & yet both girls graduated from prestigious women’s colleges (on grants and academic scholarships), are successful career women with extraordinary marriages. My son is likewise a college grad, working to support himself and his bride. This man’s kids sound like they don’t take their responsibilities as adults, spouses or parents very seriously. Marriage is a covenant with God and should never be entered into lightly. P.S. Every life choice comes with consequences – so I would suggest that these adult kids “cowboy up”, get their heads on straight and stop whining to their parents about their problems.

  • Look – we all know there is no “perfect candidate”. Why are we even arguing about this? Everyone who wants Obie out knows that Mitt is a heck of a lot better than who we are presently cursed with. Do we like all of his policies/ideas? No. Has he made some unpopular political decisions in the past? Yes. Is he a communist? NO!! The White House needs a good cleaning and sanitizing. Kick Obie to the curb, get Romney/Ryan in there, take a breath and then start the hard work.

  • I’ve always been curious about the nay sayers, liberal wackjobs and/or Christian-haters who comment on this site. If they hate what the Blaze is all about, if they hate Glenn Beck, et. al, why do they waste their time and oxygen offering useless, vitriolic commentary? Oh wait – they have to READ The Blaze in order to comment. Anyone else see the irony?

Sheesh! Must be enough left-leaning sites to accommodate their need to spew! Go away!

  • While I have not followed this story closely, I can say without reservation that I am ashamed of Vermont and its ultra-liberal, gay rights fervor and lack of Christian beliefs. I was born in VT and have family that has been here for generations. I am almost embarrassed now to admit that I am a native Vermonter. Not only has our state become slaves to liberals, our government and judicial system clearly favor homosexuals over Christians. I believe that all things being equal, the biological parent’s rights outweigh anyone else involved. What saddens me most about this story is that Lisa felt she had no other alternative but to take her child and run. This case is a travesty and the VT courts failed this mother and daughter.

If Lisa had converted to Islam, might she have had a different outcome? Hmmmm . . .

  • I was eligible for AARP 6 years ago. I initially signed up until they decided to embrace Obamacare. At that point I became a FORMER member of AARP. I don’t have Progressive and my heart aches for Matt’s family. I only hope Progressive’s stock drops through the floor and customers leave in droves!
My prayers are with you and yours, Matt.

  • I did not realize school records are routinely “sealed”. Can anyone explain to me how it is that Obie’s records aren’t accessible? And as many have pointed out, if I had done as well in college as he says he did, I would show off my transcripts with great pride. Hmmmmm.

  • Along with the potential danger to Malia, what about the other children with her? If there is a clear threat to the group, is Malia’s safety a priority? As a parent of a 14 year-old, I would never, ever let her travel anywhere with a high profile individual/family especially in a country that is clearly anti-America. Parents who knowingly put their children in dangerous situations are charged with child endangerment . . . what makes this different?
