The commissioned nurse who is an O5 give or take a rank did not. Neither did Justangry (far from it) an airdale did not. He just cited some facts. LakeHarwell & Darmok did not call him an angel either.

If the sergeant does not lose rank or is not kicked out, his commanding officer should dock his pay by 50% for 2 months which is the most allowable.

And yes he needs counseling.

But the damage to his career won’t stop there even if he is not kicked out. It will slow his promotion for 1 to 3 years which in itself is a large monetary price and it could also be career threatening. You have to make certain ranks by certain time periods.

This sergeant has a long row to hoe.

The sergeant might have been out of control, when he stepped out of his car.

But after a few or several seconds he was in control.

But as soon as he was in control he started rationalizing and so at that point it was an act. He does not want to lose face. Not wanting to lose face is not just an Asian thing.

Bingo, which leads me to think he was more in control of his emotions than he will admit.
