  • Not too long ago two friends of mine were talking to a Cuban refugee, a businessman who had escaped from Castro, and in the midst of his story one of my friends turned to the other and said, “We don’t know how lucky we are.” And the Cuban stopped and said, “How lucky you are! I had someplace to escape to.” In that sentence he told us the entire story. If we lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on Earth. And this idea that government is beholden to the people, that it has no other source of power except to sovereign people, is still the newest and most unique idea in all the long history of man’s relation to man.   • I hate to break it to you, but that Reagan 1964 is NOT a Convention speech. That’s his nationally televised speech supporting Barry Goldwater, better known as “A Time For Choosing.” The opening portion of that particular video was edited out where the announcer states that “the following pre-recorded political program is sponsored by TV for Goldwater-Miller on behalf of Barry Goldwater, Republican candidate for president of the United States.”

  • While I agree completely with the list posted earlier (“Rand Paul, Paul Ryan, Allen West”), I think Jindal is still a solid pick. I would worry that pushing the country too hard and far to the right could exacerbate division in the country. Glenn has spoken of the pendulum, swinging too far to the left AND to the right. We need to ease it back over a 4 or 8-year Romney term and then we can push hard for an actual Tea-party candidate.

  • So, does anyone who works in a library a green job? We reuse books and DVDs all the time, plus we have numerous books about the green movement, thus we are (re-)educating the populace.
