  • She is absolutely right. I said three years ago that if the Republican Party doesn’t drop both gay marriage and abortion out of their platform –just make them issues of personal conscience but not party conscience — that the party can feel holier than thou and self-righteous while being out of power. It is time to get pragmatic, people. The majority of Americans are pro-choice. It is a fact of life. That is an issue that Republican candidates just simply get bludgeoned with. Take away the opposing side’s baseball bats.

The party should run on a small-government, sensible economics platform and drop the social issues if it wants to have any chance of remaining relevant.

  • Oops cat ran across the keyboard and posted prematurely.

Georgia, Arkansas and North Carolina are lovely places to live. Even though it is cold in the winter, both North and South Dakota are breathtakingly beautiful. I say it is time to leave the blue states to the mess of their own making and start rebuilding America from the strong center.

  • I think it is time to vote with your feet if you live in a Blue State. Those states voted against business, against freedom, for the takers and against the makers, so the makers should take themselves and their businesses into red country. It is time to pull a John Galt. Only then will it become clear to those who have the film of ignorance and apathy over their eyes just how misguided the policies they support are. Texas is a big and friendly place and very business friendly –not even State taxes in Texas. Oklahoma, Georgi

  • This is the problem with food stamps and it is the fact that the system is designed to keep you dependent and down. I know. Back in the early ’90s I was on them. I was a college student on merit scholarship and working 3 jobs. I worked as a night-time security guard, threw kids around in a gymnastics gym, and as a dishwasher at the school. I got injured on the job (dumping a heavy can of garbage off the loading dock, the rusted hinge on the huge dumpster gave way and the metal lid crashed down, knocked me into the dumpster and shattered my ankle-bone that got trapped between lid and rim. I was trapped inside for more than an hour. more horrifying than the injury, before a co-worker heard my muffled cries and called for an ambulance). I didn’t qualify for worker or injury comp and I lost all 3 jobs. I had the medical bills for ambulance, emergency room, and a surgery to pay.

I got a part-time job telemarketing and was grateful because jobs were hard to come by. It covered my bills but nothing left for food. I had no choice but to go on food stamps and I was grateful to get a $70/mo food allowance — not much but enough to survive on. I made the mistake of taking an extra shift offered, 3 hours, less then $12, putting me over the 20/hr working limit for aid. Instead of just taking that out of my food stamp allotment, my aid was suspended for 3 months. I survived by eating food out of dumpsters. Thank you Dunkin Donuts for tossing your stale wares at 2 am dail

  • Can someone please post this video to youtube as well. I want to embed it for my readers but wordpress only lets you embed from youtube (which totally sux) and I think it is DESPERATELY important that people see this analysis.

  • If these people are actually trained as they should be they will detect that you are lying (they don’t really care what answers you are giving so long as whatever you are telling them is truthful –again they are looking at your body language, voice intonation etc) and pull you out as a potential terrorist.

  • If you are Israeli you wouldn’t mind this at all. When you fly out of our airport everyone gets asked “invasive” questions — if you are a citizen they may ask your home address and how long you’ve lived there, your place of employment, where you are going and why, your mother’s maiden name and a host of other questions. If you are a tourist, they may ask where you stayed (if you stayed with friends they may ask for their address and contact information — and if suspicious they may actually contact them to confirm). In general, they are not really interested in the answers per se, what they are mostly doing is checking body language and changes in vocal intonation during the interview– it is a very effective method for detecting terrorists.

  • There is a very good historical explanation why Jews (secular, not religious) lean heavily to the left in addition to the concept of Tikkun Olam. Starting in the late-20s and early 30s it was the extremely idealistic young members of socialist-zionist youth groups (all nice middle class kids, mind you — they couldn’t get the ‘proletariat’ Jewish youth interested) who foresaw the vital need to get out of Europe when few others did. They envisioned building a utopia in Israel and they were the only ones who created a real pipe-line for getting people out. They established kibbutzim in Israel and training kibbutzim in Poland, Hungary etc to ready members to leave for the promised land. They got a lot of people out. During the war, it was the socialist-zionist youth movements (specifically the youth movement I grew up in Habonim-Dror, along with Hashomer Hatzair) that managed to organize and carry out resistance — e.g., the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. The youth group members fought back against the Nazis. After the war, it was Habonim-Dror that organized the Aliya Bet — the getting of Jewish survivors of the camps out of Europe and to Israel, defying British guns to do so.

Most of these surviving members became not so socialist and certainly less idealistic as they grew older. But, thank G-d for the idealism of youth…

  • Hello, newsflash, Israel hasn’t been remotely socialist in more than 30 years and the Left in Israel has shrunk to a tiny minority since 2005 (yeah, that disengagement from Gaza really didn’t work out for us). Poll out just this week shows that Israelis hope for a Romney win by a 2:1 margin. Someone really needs to make an ad about that to show in Florida and New York.

  • The Democratic Party is starting to show its true anti-Israel colors: North Carolina Democratic Party considers anti-Israel resolution
