The columnist is absolutely right. The word “hero” gets thrown around way too easily – or military, firefighters, cops, etc. Most are brave and service minded, but few are actual heroes. This is a media creation meant to generate content, which the right wing is all too ready to appropriate for their divisive purposes. Frankly, I’m much more offended by chickehawk pantywaists like Limbaugh and Hannity and Levin who breathlessly tell us, “Thank you for your service” when they were pointing to a pimple on their but as the reason they can’t enlist.
