  • Oh, I wish it were a loss for Mayor Weiner!
That is what I’d truly love to see!
Cause if it were a loss for Mayor Weiner!
Everyone might vote instead for me!

  • Yes and no. Can Christians do wrong and break the law? Yes. Can they be forgiven? Sure.

But if a person demonstrates in their life that they have no moral framework, even though they call themselves a Christian, you cannot assume they are what they say they are.

If a man proclaims to be a brain surgeon, but picks up a chain saw to perform the surgery, I have a pretty good idea that that person isn’t who he claims to be.

How do you define moral or good when it comes to atheism? Where does the reference standard come from?

I’ve known some atheists that were good people behaviorally because their behavior emulated some moral or ethical code. But what principles were those ethics based on?

To be fair, I’ve know some Christians who were good people behaviorally. The way I understand it, relative to the moral code or law that is captured in the Bible, not a one of them were good enough to meet God’s standard for good. There is none righteous, no not one.

That’s why Jesus had to do it for us.

Still say you’ll get there if you’re mostly good? Okay, I’ll make an omlet with eleven good eggs and one bad one. Is it good enough to eat? No. So it is with our sin. Even the little ones separate us from God and we need a Savior to take that away.

I get it. You don’t have to agree and maybe even won’t. But for either (all) of us, the truth is not predicated on what we believe or how fervently we believe it.

  • Jesus died for the redemption of all mankind. And that gift of forgiveness and salvation from our sins is available freely to all. But not everyone accepts that gift.

It is like having a bank account given to you that has limitless money. It is sitting there waiting to be claimed. But no one can make you take it.

Atheists doing good and getting to Heaven on their works? No. Nor Catholics, Methodists, Baptists, Lutherans, etc. Being a member of a group doesn’t get you there, nor do your works.

Ephesians 2:8-9 says “By grace are you saved through faith; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Grace and only grace through faith. I don’t see where faith enters into it for an atheist.

But atheist or not, I only know of one sin that is not forgiven is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit (rejection of Him). Read that as all other sins have already been forgiven and the one that will keep me from eternity with Him in Heaven is rejecting Jesus and the free gift He gives.

  • As an ex-Okie who has both been in tornadoes and has responded as a paramedic to them….

The number one cause of death from tornado is head injury. If you have a bike helmet, motorcycle helmet, football helmet, or other head protection, wear it during a tornado. Just make sure the chin strap doesn’t choke you as the tornado is going to try to suck it off of your head.

The number two cause of death is from chest/thoracic internal injuries. That is why if you are above ground, you need a bath tub or some other place to hide that will (hopefully) protect your trunk.

Plumbing goes into the foundation, so you may need to lash yourself down with a cord, rope, or belt to hold yourself down.

Make sure you have your flashlight and a whistle handy. As you are trapped, those are the best ways to communicate with first responders.

Hopefully your 72-hour pack is close by and safe; you may need it.

Finally, today is someone’s last day. They may have been in a fire, a tornado, a flood, or even die from cancer or a heart attack. None of us is guaranteed tomorrow. Some of the people that died yesterday were mourning those that died here in Texas’ tornadoes last week. Some of those were mourning the people of West, TX the week before. And still others the victims of Boston before that.

For each of them, their day came.

With no guarantees, make your peace with God today and vow to live tomorrow for Him should he bless you with another day.

  • I should have seen that coming.

  • Come on! Guys! Give Piers a break. He apparently has seen Minority Report and you haven’t. With a networked connection of psychic energy we should be able to see all crime before it happens.

Am I making complete sense here?

  • To all those that don’t believe in some kind of gun control, I’d ask you to reconsider. This underscores the serious need for gun control legislation. I think it is clear it would be best if the government (at least certain parts) didn’t have so much easy access to guns.

BTW – if they need to defend themselves, they have a video that shows them how to grab a pair of scissors. Perhaps even a stapler (as long as it has ten or fewer staples in it)?

Give me a minute: I’m doing a “green job” on the Whitehouse lawn.
