  Africa is still not a race, it’s a continent.
  The 1960 US Census for Hawaii lists blacks as Negroes. separate from other non-whites.
  They, the non-whites, are sub classed as Japanese, Fillipinos (yes, they used the F),Chinese and Indian (American or India? who knows?) In Honolulu County there were about 1,300 Negroes and in other counties less than ten. Maui only had 2.
  Rather than call Hawaii progressive, in those days it would have qualified more as Xenophobic just like Japan and China and Korea were then.
  If you don’t believe me, just watch that movie Elvis made about Hawaii.
  In the 50′s my brother married a Japanese. I remember what that was like. People didn’t go around bragging about having a half black baby. I am not saying it was right, just facts.
  Did anyone notice the question on the form about the mother being from a Plantation?
  Too many people here have only the revised version of life back then to go on.
