So much for the pro-choicers that say that these clinics don’t encourage women to get abortions, they just “counsel them about their options”. I can understand the argument that women should be able to make that choice, but it should be a given that it isn’t the choice that anyone would want or encourage them to make. Abortion is a violent surgery, even a safe abortion in a clinic, not just for the baby(obviously) but to the mother as well. They scrape the sides of the uterus, for crying out loud. This can make it difficult to get pregnant later on due to scarring. Why would you want to do that to anyone? How about encouraging these young women to carry to term and choose adoption. It is a blatant straw-man argument to say that this will ruin the girl’s life. There is little or no social stigma anymore about being pregnant and unmarried, and adoptive couples pay all expenses, and often more. A bit of physical discomfort for a few months is not much to give so that another person can live a happy productive life – especially when you are the one that caused that life to be in existence. Sheesh.

@liberal athiest,
Although wikipedia is in no way a credible source, since you cited it as a source I will assume that you think it is. Here’s the definition of a person according to Wikipedia
:A person (plural: persons or people; from Latin: persona, meaning “mask”)[1] is a human being, or an entity that has certain capacities or attributes associated with personhood, for example in a particular moral or legal context.[2] Such capacities or attributes can include agency, self-awareness, a notion of the past and future, and the possession of rights and duties, among others.[3] However, the concept of a person is difficult to define in a way that is universally accepted, due to its historical and cultural variability and the controversies surrounding its use in some contexts
Not much of a definition. According to this source, it can be defined in a lot of different ways. I would think that the ability to feel pain and a heartbeat are pretty definitive.

I just can’t let this one pass. Wikipedia is an acceptable source? By whose standards? Your most basic college course does not accept Wikipedia as a cite source for a paper. Try again.
Palin: I Didn’t Mess Up Paul Revere History
June 7, 2011 at 4:47am
@saranda,
what does that have to do with Palin’s accuracy of the event? It just proves that she knows more about American History than the general public (and journalists, apparently).

Emcee,
Nice try. You are really dedicated to that narrative of yours, though, aren’t you?

I am sick to death of the ongoing battle between Christians and Atheists on this site. It is revolting. To any of you to whom this doesn’t apply, feel free to ignore it. Otherwise, listen up. Here’s a typical conversation:
Atheist(giggling gleefully): religion is just stupid superstition. Jesus is nothing but a fairy tale.
Christian (face turning purple and typing in all caps): How dare you! Jesus is Lord, and nobody is going to convince me otherwise. If you don’t like it, you should move to Iraq! You are going to Hell, sinner!
Atheist(enjoying himself immensely): There is no hell, because there is no god. I know this for a fact because Science says so.
Christian(becoming apoplectic): Science is a bunch of bunk! It is the devil’s work!
Atheist: You are a delusional psychopath.
Christian: You are an evil pig.
How about this for an alternative:
Atheist: I really don‘t get how you can believe in something that you can’t see.
Christian: Well, here’s why I believe in God….etc.
Atheist: Okay, but what about this….etc.
Christian: Yeah, that’s a valid question, this is the way I look at it….etc.
Atheist: Okay, I can see how that might make sense, except for….etc.
Christian: Think about it this way….etc.
Atheist: But still, have you ever considered that….etc.
I can’t express how much I would love to see (and participate in) a conversation like that on this site. Sometimes I do, but not very often. Anybody else feel the sa

Unfortunately no one is listening. So many of these dummies prefer to believe what fits their own narrative, and will not research the facts for themselves.

@archon,
quote: My point is that she has said far far stupider things in the past and if you already think she‘s an idiot this probably won’t change it,
So, it turns out that Sarah Palin actually was right. In fact, she just happens to know more about that particular event in American History than everyone else, but since journalists(who are supposed to check the facts before reporting) say that she is just plain stupid, everyone takes that as truth.
I’m not a Sarah Palin supporter, but this just makes me angry. You are basing your opinion of her on things she has previously said that have been reported by these “so-called” journalists who either want to spin her as an idiot, or are too lazy and/or stupid to make sure that her remarks are reported accurately and in context. It seems to me that your opinion of her is based on some pretty shaky ground. I wonder what else she has said that sounded stupid to the rest of us because 1) we didn’t actually know the facts and 2) it was spun that way by our friends in the media. Unless, of course, you get your quotes directly from Mrs. Palin herself, and not through some media source? If that is the case, then I stand corrected.

Okay, I guess this post is way too long. In a nutshell, could we please keep it civil?

day, say something that might help turn it into a good one, and go on your way. You will be a better person for it.
p.s. It goes without saying that this applies to everyone, not just Christians and Atheists. That just seems to be the most vile topic on this site.
p.p.s. Lest any of you think I am being self-righteous and hypocritical, you may be right. I have probably engaged in angry debate and said things that I shouldn’t have. I sincerely apologize if I have ever been unkind to any of you.
