“@Americadalek: “Remember when he said moving the Mosque would be seen as an insult to Muslims around the world and could incite violence”…..in the streets. He also said; he was afraid the violence would be worse than what happened with the Danish cartoonist….gee, what happened to that Danish cartoonist? I watched the interview on Larry King, did you? I didn’t need Fox News to tell me it sounded like a threat or twist his words, it’s on VIDEO……build the Mosque or else!!!”

You didn’t answer the question: Why was it OK when Petraeus said it, but coming from Rauf it’s suddenly a threat? I‘m pretty sure Petraeus isn’t secretly a Muslim terrorist, so it sounds like a legitimate viewpoint. Offending al-Qaeda or the Taliban doesn’t bother me. They’re both monsters and the world is better off without them. But what you have to remember there are millions of moderates in the Muslim world who DON’T hate us. When we burn Korans or protest the building of a Mosque, that offends them and makes it easier for radicals to recruit. That’s what the Pentagon has said. That’s what the CIA said. That’s what Petraeus said. Why does it become a threat from the mouth of Rauf?

“Maybe he should be talking to the Muslim community and trying to calm THEIR angry waters…”

But he DOES. Often. That’s why the Pentagon likes him. He explains to Muslims that the US doesn’t want to take over the Middle East. That Muslims in the US are treated fairly. HE INVITES THEM TO JOIN US AGAINST THE RADICALS!

“Time & time again we see or read disturbing things that show just how intolerant Islam is towards other religions…”

No. You see or hear things that show how intolerant RADICAL Islam is toward other religions. I imagine you’re a Christian. Have you ever heard of the Christian Identity movement? They’re a RADICAL group of Christians who believe that only White people have souls and, therefore, it’s their religious duty to wipe out all the Jews, Blacks, Asians, etc… How would you feel if someone lumped you into that group?

“This Imam wrote a book (in English & Arabic)where he talks about bringing Sharia Law to America & other countries …”

But what is Sharia law? It is simply an edict that a Muslim leader claims is divinely inspired. There’s Shia Islam and Sunni Islam and so on. And each one of these denominations have there own Sharia laws. The church you go to might have doctrines that the church next door disagrees with. In other words, each church has it’s own “Sharia.” Likewise if Osama bin Laden claims it is Sharia law that all Americans be killed, ALL MUSLIMS DO NOT OBEY IT. Don’t believe me? Bin Laden’s Sharia law has listed the 4 great enemies of Islam: America, Israel, heretics and…Shia Muslims. If there was one Sharia, all the Shia would be converting to Sunniism right now.

The point of all this is that when Rauf talks about bringing Sharia law to the US, he’s not talking about all the beheading, death-to-America stuff that bin Laden is. HE’S TALKING ABOUT THE SHARIA LAWS OF MODERATE ISLAM, THE SHARIA LAWS OF THE MAJORITY OF PEACEFUL MUSLIMS. He’s saying that even though Sharia forbids drinking alcohol, eating pork, looking at pornography, etc. you can still be an American citizen and TAKE PART IN THE AMERICAN DREAM!

“we deserve HONEST answers but this Imam picks and chooses his interviews…”

But the EXPERTS (Pentagon, CIA, etc…) have interviewed him and he’s won their support. Don’t they know more than the media?

“We’re living in the 21st century…not the dark ages……we don’t behead, bury people up to their necks & stone them to death…”

Neither do Muslims. You’re talking about the actions of radicals or totalitarian states where the people have no control. Before the war, I read an article about the Taliban publicly cutting off the hands of criminals in the middle of a soccer field. A huge crowd gathered in the stands and, when the amputations began, they began chanting, begging them not to do it. Were those people crying out monsters? They were just average people like us.

“If Muslims can’t assimilate to OUR culture ( legal, religious, political, economic, & military)……then they need to go back to their homeland…”

There are thousands of Muslims in the US who don’t practice violence. They sound pretty assimilated to me.

“Would you move to Saudi Arabia and expect them to change their culture…”

No, I wouldn’t since Saudi Arabia is not a democracy. A democracy is formed from all kinds of people for all kinds of people. When we start excluding certain groups, it stops being a democracy…

Carol in MA, I‘m not saying these things to be mean to you or to prove I’m right or anything like that.I know you’re upset over 9/11. So am I. But ask yourself, what was bin Laden’s plan for 9/12 and onwards? He knew we would overtake Afghanistan, so what was the point? The point was to draw us into conflict in the Middle East. He knew that the more we fought over there, the more civilian casualties there would be, and the more al-Qaeda would be able to draw new recruits. He wants us to convince the moderates to fight against us. His ultimate goal is to draw us into a conflict with the ENTIRE MUSLIM WORLD. That‘s a conflict we can’t win.

Did you know that al-Qaeda reconstituted most of it’s forces while we were fighting in Iraq? Yup, after all that fighting in Afghanistan, they were back to full fighting strength.

In war, it’s rarely a good strategy to do what your enemy wants.

Look, I hate them as much as you. This is a terrorist war against civilians – people like me and you. I don’t like knowing they could set off a bomb at any moment. But it’s not enough to fight. We have to fight *smart*.

  • No. Imitation is the highest form of flattery. Mockery is a sign of being a jackass.

  • John Stewart leans to the Left, but if you watch the show, he makes a strong attempt to be unbiased. Monday’s episode had them making fun of a Wal-Mart union that hired temps to stand outside and protest. Thing is, the union was paying the “protesters” less and treating them worse than they claimed Wal-Mart had treated them. The bit ended with a Daily Show guy organizing the protesters into a Union Protester’s Union and had them march against the Wal-Mart union.

  • So this is what the Tea Party has to offer America: Michael Moore fat jokes.

  • “Not a word will said in condemnation of this by the left or by the administration.”

The school administration already said they shouldn’t have let the kids join in. See my earlier comments for why it’s not such a big deal.

“The Muslims want to take this country over and this is one of the first steps.”

So you can make a blanket statement about one of the three largest religions in the world? Well, if you can, so can I:
CHRISTIANS WANT TO PUT LIVE EELS IN OUR UNDERPANTS!!!!!!!!

“Just think of the outrage if the students were taken to a Christian church and allowed to pray ?”

Funny you should mention it, the kids are going to see Gospel music as part of the same program.

  • Uh, the PRACTICE of religion was banned in schools. The kids were not instructed to pray (see above). On top of that, the school program had them visiting a synagogue, listening to Gospel music, etc…

  • From what we know, the kids were not instructed to pray by either the school faculty or the Mosque. They may have joined in because they were confused about what to do or they could have just been pulling a prank!

If you don’t believe this, WHY DID ONLY FIVE KIDS PRAY?

  • What party did the segregationists join after Nixon implemented the Southern Strategy?

    I’ll give you a hint:

    The answer rhymes with “Republican.”

Part of the course has them studying Judaism in a synagogue, Christianity through gospel music and meet with Hindu religious representatives. Notice that no one seems to understand this. I have a sneaking suspicion that Americans for Peace and Tolerance prefer it that way. Watch out where you get your news from.
