  • hat’s right…

The people from Congress, responsible for running the national debt past the $16 trillion dollar mark, are planning on setting limits on how much “reasonable profit” private companies can make.

Now, maybe it’s just me, but should these $16+ TRILLION debtors be taking LESSONS from profitable companies on how to balance a budget and eliminate waste…???

But, what do I know… I never held down a job as a community organizer…

  • Prof — You are dead on the money. I used to work in supermarkets in the mid-1980’s, and I can still recall when tuna came in 6¼-ounce cans that routinely went on sale 3 for $1. Over the years that changed to 6-ounce cans, and the best price you would find was 2 for $1. And now, only 5-ounce cans can be found on the shelves.

During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays we always had canned vegetables (name-brands like Libby’s and Del Monte) on sale 4 for $1. Good luck finding those kinds of prices ever again, much less during the holidays.

And candy bars were 25¢. And I’m not talking about the miniature bars, either. I’m talking about your standard Milky Way, Butterfinger, 3 Musketeers, Snickers, etc. 12 ounce bottles of soft drinks were the same price. At break time I could have a candy bar and a Barq’s Root Beer for 52¢ (with tax)…

  • Will this make it too expensive for parents to send their children to school with PB&J sandwiches, forcing them to eat the government (aka Michelle Obama) approved lunches?

  • Troy — My advice — Pay the fine.

Then have your agent call the cell phone service provider you used, make a slew of commercials (with comical anti-NFL jabs) and make back millions more than you paid in fines…

  • You know, the funny things is… I watched the video and saw… NOTHING.

Yes, I saw two blonds. And there was shoving — by the crowd toward Rep. Bachmann. However…

    I DID NOT see elbowing.

I DID NOT see anyone pushed into a golf cart.

I DID NOT see people spilling thngs as a result.

I DID NOT see Mr. Bachmann.

I DID see a CNN reporter making CLAIMS — largely unfounded claims…

  • My wife and I did the same — We LEGALLY obtained a Resident Visa, and just yesterday I mailed in the N-400 form for her Naturalization.

As I’m sure you understand, but most Americans do not, there IS ALREADY A PATHWAY TO CITIZNSHIP. It involves FOLLOWING THE LAW…!!!

  • No laws are broken if a victim chases after a criminal (with the possible exception of traffic violations).

More details are needed, but if the thief actually raised the weapon and fired at the victim while he was still in his car, I’d have to say that it qualifies as self-defence. And if the thief then raised the weapon a second time, there would certainly be reason to believe he was going to fire the weapon again.

This all ended in a shopping mall, so there is a good possibility that there were video cameras in place that caught the action and they could support Mr. Kobobel’ sversion of events. I certainly hope that they do.

Think of the money saved by the court systems if the killing is deemed justified.

  • Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-NY) tried roughly the same thing back in 1993.

    http://www.nytimes.com/1993/11/04/us/moynihan-asks-big-tax-increase-on-ammunition.html

    …from the article…

Mr. Moynihan’s proposal would raise the current 11 percent tax on the wholesale price of handgun ammunition to 50 percent in most cases. It would not raise the tax on .22-caliber ammunition typically used for target shooting.

But it would raise the tax to 10,000 percent on the Winchester 9-millimeter hollow-tipped Black Talon cartridge with a bullet advertised as expanding “to expose razor-sharp reinforced jacket petals.”

A 10,000 percent tax (calculated on the wholesale cost) would push the price of a $24 box of 20 Black Talon cartridges to $1,500, not to $150,000. [Remember -- this article is from 1993, so the prices were MUCH lower than they are today.]

  • Losers — ON AND OFF the ice…

  • I don’t take it as an insult to Glenn. When Jillette says “nut”, he’s not talking like coo-coo, crazy nuts. I take it to mean different, outside the box, marching to the beat of a different drummer, as it were.
