  • Sorry, I will be busy celebrating Memorial Day, for the remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. Those people who fought for our freedoms that immigrants, like them, liked sooo much that they decided to come over here and try to change them. Besides Islam is not a religion, it is a theocracy.

  • Boy I wish NYC would separate from upstate! Instead of teaching more important subjects to increase their rating, they go with this. English literacy in America is dropping; children have rudimentary math skills at best; and we all know they don’t teach factual history. They should never mandate you take a specific foreign language. The families should have been given a choice from Spanish, French, Arabic, and Latin. If this “stuff” comes upstate, I am homeschooling ASAP.

  • When I was younger I volunteered at a zoo, shoveling scat. I did it to get the experience of working with exotic animals. I enjoyed every moment even though I came home smelling like…well, you know. I learned more from that experience than I did in some of my college classes.

  • Without faith there can be no hope. So if Atheists have no faith what is your reason for life?

  • I am involved in Boy scouts and a Sunday school teacher; but do you really need to be involved with these groups (BSA, GS, AHG) to be of merit. Just go out in the world and do good works. That is all that is asked of you to be a good Christian and an American.

  • I do not think this is unconstitutional at the Federal level, but the state constitution states:
Bill of Rights, section 5. “No preference shall ever be given by law to any religious sect, society or denomination; nor to any particular creed, mode of worship or system of ecclesiastical polity” The policy of having that pledge included would go against their state constitution.

  • Instead of demonizing these figures with sexual references, they should have a picture of pregnant Mary with a big bow around her belly. Mary and humanity were given a GIFT, not screwed.

  • Would they rather we use fingerprint scanners? No need to buy a hand, and we would definately know who they were.

The need to overhaul the U.S. immigration system is becoming ever more urgent. In the absence of comprehensive immigration reform, states have felt compelled to write their own immigration laws, which are often shortsighted and misguided. The ELCA needs your leadership. We urge you to continue to speak to Congress and the American public to take action on comprehensive immigration reform and the DREAM Act and to explore other compassionate policy reforms that advance the common good.
As a national church body, the ELCA — our congregations, bishops, schools and millions of individual members — continues to preach, teach, advocate and work with and on behalf of America’s newcomers. This nation has achieved such greatness due to the resilience, labor and intellect of immigrants. We will roll up our sleeves and work tirelessly until this nation is once again a place of welcome and justice for newcomers.
    In God’s grace,

    The Rev. Mark S. Hanson
    Presiding Bishop
    Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

  • Oh, give me a break Ken Jennings! Let the people at Jeopardy “spread the wealth” to other contestants. So what if you don’t enjoy your current job, at least you have one.
