  • Wow, for an “educated person” you sure have an uninformed view of science.

As a scientist I can tell you that science claims to represent nature, not reality. Reality is the domain of philosophy, nature is the realm of science. If you believe that science=reality then you are not a scientist, you are a follower of scientism… a faith based enterprise. Science gives the best natural explanation to (*defined*) natural phenomena.

The question that you need to answer is can you live in a world where most people believe in (what you call) “fairy tales” without feeling threatened enough to malign them? Based on your comment the answer is no. Personal liberties and rights are based in the fact that two people can exercise them without infringing upon each others’ free exercise. What I often hear from “science-minded” people, is that the free exercise of religion is not such a right… that it causes wars, that it keeps people stupid. Again, what an uninformed viewpoint. People make choices, our beliefs do not fate us to ignorance or to violence. There is no perfect world, and you will have to learn to live with the offense you take from vocal “fairy tale”-believers. And we “fairy talers” will have to live with vocal scientismists. Speech and liberty are rights… you do not have a right never to be offended… even by the ignorance of others. But please do not destroy my profession by claiming it represents reality, please!

  • This article needs a little more Austrian Economics. When the government pumps free money into something, it changes the balance of supply and demand. Now rather than a few hundred thousand students willing and able to pay $60,000 per year for college, the government changes the hedonistic calculation so that several tens-of-millions of students who are willing to pay $60,000, so why not raise prices to $65,000, $70,000… maybe $100,000. But what is worse, is that college education has no intrinsic value whatsoever; and just like property, that one ugly house on the block (in this instance a gay midgets in American history bachelor’s degree of arts) brings down the price of everyone’s… As more people get college diploma’s, it is no longer a big f’n deal (as Biden would say) — this is called marginal utility theory — if 1 in 100 workers have a college degree it is more valuable to a consumer (employer) than if 1 in 10 of his workers have degrees. Not to mention that in the name of social justice we’ve lowered college standards across the board.

So were paying more for something that is valued less. What’s the solution? STOP FUNDING EDUCATION, and STOP REQUIRING KIDS TO FINISH HIGH SCHOOL. These two blows would increase the value of both a high school diploma (de facto skilling our work force) and would lower the fiscal price of college while increasing its intellectual price.

  • Better than I thought it would be (singing-wise, anyway)

  • Gary Johnson Wins Libertarian Party Nomination

    May 5, 2012 at 11:28pm

    In reply to soybomb315.

A vote for Gary Johnson is a vote for Obama AND a vote for Romney… Johnson is not a Libertarian… he is a Utilitarian. Just look at why he wants to legalize pot: “so the government can tax it”. A Libertarian believes that prohibition of an action is MORALLY wrong (Life, Liberty, Property and all of that), while a utilitarian thinks that legalizing it will bring the most good to the most people (e.g. a tax).

    Give me a break!

  • Can someone say, “entrapment”

  • SLR4528, I too am a MN state delegate, and am enamored by Representative Bills. I think the reason why Mr. Hegseth is getting both main-stream and alternative media coverage is his work with national veterans organizations… Although he is hardly a household name, he is well known with the powers that be. For this reason I believe that the Republican establishment has chosen Hegseth as their candidate; this is evidenced by the fact that Severson is running his campaign as a quasi-libertarian: talking about the Fed, NDAA, and civil liberties. I think that the party abandoned Severson (an establishmentarian) for Hegseth (an establishmentarian who did not lose a bid for SOS). It will be an interesting State convention.

  • Why is this a story?????

  • How can this be possible? Glenn Beck and David Horowitz told me that the Ron Paul was an anti-Semite because he wouldn‘t fight Israel’s wars for them. I’m shocked that anyone can possibly support the self-determination of a sovereign nation, AND not want to enter into entangling defense treaties with them. GASP!

  • Keep preaching the truth; I could not agree more!

  • The EPA is funding this movie, need I say more?
