Beck Shares Rare Book About America‘s ’Holy Experiment,’ Asking Can Man Rule Himself?
April 28, 2011 at 8:23am
I am not familiar with this book, but “Holy Experiment” was the name given to William Penn’s idea for starting a colony for Quakers to escape religious persecution. He wanted to have religious freedom for all, and to live in peace with the Native Americans.
Big Brother? Feds Order Schools to Monitor Kids Facebook Posts & Lunchtime Chatter
March 16, 2011 at 9:32am
When a bullying incident takes place, the schools are blamed for not doing anything to prevent it, yet nobody wants them to take the steps needed to detect it and intervene. A serious dialog needs to take place about which is more important, student safety or privacy.
Kentucky Legislature Considers Bible Curriculum for Public Schools
February 9, 2011 at 9:14am
Be careful what you wish for.
There are many different ways of interpreting and teaching the Bible. I can just see the problems that could arise if the “wrong” view is taught. I don’t know what the policy in Kentucky is, but many states allow for release time for students to go to houses of worship for religious education. Parents should certainly have choice in what kind of religion their children are taught.

Science Czar Holdren on Climate Change Skeptics: ‘It Is An Education Problem’
January 31, 2011 at 9:04am
I realize most of you don’t care what most scientists think on the issue, after all, they can’t compete with your common sense, but Wikipedia has a good summary of the issue here:

Bill Maher Turns Climate Change Debate Into Evolution Showdown
January 29, 2011 at 10:31am
Scientists differentiate between hypotheses and scientific theories. Theories are broad explanations of phenomena based on large bodies of evidensce. An example is the Atomic Theory. Many of the things we describe about atoms, like electrons in energy levels, nuclear structure, etc. can not be observed directly, but we use that model of the atom because it explains everything we observe about matter. Evolutionary theory explains the diversity of life on earth and is supported by fossil, anatomical, molecular and genetic evidence. Climate change is also supported by data collected in many branches of chemistry, geology and climatology.
As long as a significant portion of the people in this country deny science simply because they do not like what is says, we will fall behind other countries in areas of science, technology and medicine.
Beck Slams Matthews Over ‘Balloon Head’ Bachmann Depiction
January 29, 2011 at 8:56am
Beck has some of his facts wrong.
Chris Matthews did not go to an Ivy League school. He graduated from the College of the Holy Cross and did graduate work at UNC. He also served in the Peace Corps.
And slavery was not abolished by the founding fathers.
