  • I voted in Iowa last night. Yes, anybody can come in, but you have to prove you live in the district, and you have to either be on the list of registered republicans, or register as a republican on-site in order to get a ballet. I had to register since I was previously registered as “No Party” (as in Independent). I cast my vote for Santorum, and then I‘m pretty sure I’m going to change my party affiliation back to independent. Not a huge fan of republicans, too progressive!

our precinct had record turnout, and Romney won ours. He also won our county (Dallas Co.)

Sad that if 9 more people could have come out to vote for Santorum, he would have won. those who would have voted for Bachmann would have been able to put themselves behind Santorum, that would have put him over the top…. But, that’s not how things work.

  • Minnesota has the Vikings, don’t know what you mean by “Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota don’t have NFL teams because then Minnesota would want one.”

    ???

  • The combine (aka harvester) on the front page of The Blaze is harvesting Wheat. Um, maybe, MAYBE is far western Iowa, you MIGHT find a wheat field, but I would bet money that the photo was not taken in Iowa. We have corn and soy beans, and that’s about it.

I have lived in Iowa all my life, and this b.s. about stupid hicks and whatnot is getting old. Yes, there are rural areas, but the vast majority of us do NOT have anything to do with agriculture. I don’t know the statistic off the top of my head, but I’m pretty sure I recall something about less than one half of one percent of Iowans are farmers.

  • @sylviachatterly

I hate this stereotype about Iowans not “getting out” or traveling. My wife spent a year in Europe in college, and then we went to Brussels, Paris & London before we had kids. We honeymooned in the Caribbean, been to Panama before the canal went back to Panama, been all over the US, etc.

My in-laws (retired farmer!) have been to China, Egypt (before the up-rising) Eastern Europe, and many more places. They are humble and don’t brag, but they own farm land totaling well into 7 digits, so they travel wherever and whenever they want – I know there are more locations, but I can’t recall them all right now.

There are plenty of well traveled, smart Iowans, so lets not stereotype please.

oops, I posted before I read YourTea’s post. didn’t notice that this person is doing the best they can given their disability. Should have read before I posted, sorry. (my reply may go away soon since I have reported my own post as inappropriate in an effort to get it deleted)

So, we go from no caps and no punctuation to capitalizing the first letter of each and every word? Does anybody know anything about how to compose a sentence or a paragraph? C’mon people!

On the photo, I would have rather seen a more natural photo.

  • I live in central Iowa, and listen to Simon on the way home from work. When he first started out, I really liked him, but as time goes on, it becomes clear that he is not really all that smart. If he is losing an argument with a caller, he interrupts them, or just hangs up on them. Ideologically, I agree about 85% of the time, but when the other side takes him to the cleaners in an argument, he handles it poorly, and usually hangs up on them.

It *IS* relatively pleasant to listen to that British accent, but don’t call him British. He’s a naturalized US Citizen, and very proud of it.

He’s also never been around snow, and the first time it snowed here in Iowa, he nearly wrecked his Caddie. I predict he’ll total his car before spring. He’s lived in Florida ever since coming to the US.

  • adding to the ” … yields similar results” thread : Eating ice cream (I’m lactose intolerant) without lactaid yields similar results.

  • Yup. Should be canceled. Its going to turn out to be a small group who want to kiss Trump’s ring, and beg for his endorsement. Not something that should happen at all. Just cancel the event, or find a truly fair moderator, and take Trump out of the mix.

  • I feel better now. If I convert it strati to ASCII, its mostly junk characters, and the first line only contains 3 alpha-numeric characters, 7, Q and X. I highly doubt its a strait hex to ascii conversion.
