  • Fred Karger isn’t just a gay Republican – he is a total gay rights activist who will stop at nothing to get attention. Google “Fred Karger Boom Boom Room.”Long story short, an “iconic” gay bar closed in Laguna Beach because the property was purchased by a billionaire who wanted to redo it into a boutique hotel, the couple who had been running the bar were ready to move onto the next thing in their lives, and no one in the gay community could/would pony up the money to buy the property from the owner. Karger pushed to make the property owner out to be anti-gay, going to such extents as getting celebrities to petition him to “Save the Boom” and protesting in front of AIG’s headquarters (because the owner’s company was a subsidiary of AIG – his office wasn’t even in that building), etc., in the hopes the owner would donate the multimillion dollar property. It was such bizarre logic. http://articles.ocregister.com/2008-02-28/cities/24724387_1_gay-community-boom-boom-room-steven-udvar-hazy

I covered all of this as a journalist, and I would never vote for Karger. His politics take a backseat to his gay rights agenda, and he is not a fair human being from my interactions with him.

Sheesh. Elmo is the most political muppet out there. Oh for the days when frogs simply sang about rainbows! (Then again, it isn’t easy being green…)

  • Activists Claim Anti-Gay Sentiments Permeate Mormonism

    In reply to Fubeca.

Thanks for sharing – I was looking for the link to share it here. GREAT piece!

  • As a Latter-day Saint, please let me clarify: Packer’s comments were focused on ALL sexual sin (particularly pornography) – not just homosexuality. I’m a multigeneration (seven generations?) Mormon, and one of my best friends is gay. I’ve seen close friends stay true to the faith while struggling with same-sex attraction, and I’ve seen close friends leave the Church in favor of living the gay lifestyle. My loyalty to these friends has remained steadfast and unwavering – even while I worked diligently for the pro-Prop. 8 campaign to define marriage as between a man and woman. The two are not mutually exclusive. You can love the individual while still standing for the principles and tenets you believe.

LDS leaders have affirmed time and time again that it’s wrong to be violent or hateful toward those who are gay just as how they would speak against any violence. It’s not okay to shun those who are different. That, unfortunately, is more prevalent in Utah than in other states, like California, my home state. But to make a sweeping statement that anti-gay sentiments permeate the entire faith is misleading and flat-out wrong.

  • Wow, he really needs to study his history. Mexico didn’t exist in 1776! From Wikipedia: “In 1521, Spain conquered and colonized the territory, which was administered as the viceroyalty of New Spain which would eventually become Mexico as the colony gained independence in 1821. The post-independence period was characterized by economic instability, territorial secession and civil war, including foreign intervention, two empires and two long domestic dictatorships. The latter led to the Mexican Revolution in 1910, which culminated with the promulgation of the 1917 Constitution and the emergence of the country’s current political system.” It’s really not that difficult.

As for leaving out the Creator – unfortunate, but not unsurprising. Doesn’t matter how much he tries to push God out of America – those of us who believe will continue to keep God in the American consciousness.

  • How sad – used to be such a fan, but he has gone so far off course. If you don’t like the laws, CHANGE them. Don’t just break and/or ignore them! Without the Rule of Law, we’ll crumble!

  • Don’t you love how Moore glazes over how the victims of 9/11 were MURDERED – so, without choosing that fate, obviously – whereas those who eat McDonald’s do so BY CHOICE? What ever happened to personal accountability? Sheesh. So insensitive. And he’s hardly the epitome of health to be speaking!
