The Catholic Church is changing. The “happy-clappy” crowd are on the way out and the traditional church is making its way back. Those in the late 60′s who ushered in the “new” mass and all the liberal garbage that came with it are losing their power base.
It might surprise people to know that the areas that have the traditional mass available to them actually have full masses, long lines for confession, daily confession in alot of places, large families and usually homeschooled families. These people know their Catechism and most certainly don’t use contraception. Oh yeah, and we didn’t vote for Obama either.
The news actually makes this alot worse than it is. I live here and this stuff is confined to a few block area right around campus. Personally I don’t care if they celebrate, sometimes they get a bit carried away but growing up in Detroit, this is pretty tame stuff all in all.
Also, UK basketball is almost like a religion around here. I don’t follow it much, the hubby does. I decided to go to the store yesterday during the game figuring it would be pretty deserted. I was right. :) Streets normally crowded were empty, had to roads to myself. NICE!
Win or lose the folks around here love their UK basketball teams, coaches come and go(especially if they don’t win) but they support their team 100%. Even their pretty sad football team has a loyal following.
To receive Holy Communion worthily it is necessary to be free from mortal sin, to have a right intention, and to obey the Church’s laws on the fast required before Holy Communion out of reverence for the body and blood of Our Divine Lord. He who knowingly receives Holy Communion in mortal sin receives the body and blood of Christ; but he does not receive His graces and he commits a grave sin of sacrilege.
For the Jewish people the Sabbath was Saturday. When they became unfaithful, the Father sent the Son to establish a new covenant with those who would believe in the Son, Jews and Gentiles alike. The new covenant established Sunday as the Sabbath, the day Jesus rose from the dead.
As for establishing a church and the pope and confession, if Christ did not do this I am unclear on what you think this passage from the Gospel of Mark would indicate?
“But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” Then Jesus answered and said, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father in heaven. And I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
If Jesus did not want a Church established, why did He instruct Peter to build one? Hell has not prevailed against the Catholic church over 2,000 plus years, though many have tried. And why is he telling Peter he has the keys to the kingdom of heaven? Why does He tell Peter he can loose and unloose? Sins? Perhaps? Since Peter was an apostle as well as the first Pope, I think he might have known just bit more than all the so called experts nowadays.
No kidding! Where are our elected representatives taking a stand against him? There are 3 branches of the govt but from the looks of it there is only one, Mr. Dictator. I feel like I live in some tinpot third world country anymore. Apparently nobody we elect is going to stand up for us and our country. They are going to roll over and let him do what he wants unchallenged. Shame on them. I am really very disappointed in my govt and my country right now.
West Liberty here in Kentucky was hit twice in 3 days by tornadoes. The one on Friday destroyed the entire downtown area. There really is nothing left. It is in Morgan County.

What is really amazing is how the people of this state come together and help one another. When I read stuff from people who say they would never live in this area or that we are silly for still believing in God and for praying, I say we are pretty happy you don’t live here either. I moved from Michigan over 25 years ago to this state and it was because of the kind and loving folks who are here. Proud to say I am a Kentuckian by adoption. :)
What I heard on the news is the were driving to Detroit Metro Airport to catch a 5:30 am flight. My prayers go out for all the families involved, so very sad.
These tornadoes were F4 possibly F5, that is how she landed in the field. Just looking at some of the neighboring communities here in Kentucky is so sad. Our local news channel have some excellent videos and photos up of the actual tornadoes and the damage. WLEX, WKYT and WTVQ. Yesterday was just a weird day all around, you could just feel the nastiness in the air all day. I remember the 1974 outbreak and it was the same way, almost like you know something bad is coming.
Thankfully our town was spared. I know I was saying lots of extra prayers yesterday as we live on a slab without a basement. Around here they are a luxury because of all the limestone in the ground. Nobody knows why God takes some and spares others. I sometimes wonder why the Bible Belt seems to get hammered with these killer storms and not the less Godless areas of our country, I don’t have an answer. I have heard that those who are closest to Him share in His sufferings like He did when He suffered and died for us. I believe that is true.
The Catholic Church does not lord anything over a person in confession. Most folks I know, myself included feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders after going to confession. I am not confessing to a man, but Christ Himself, whose representative here on earth is the priest. The sanctity of the the confessional cannot be breached for any reason. I cannot speak for other faiths rules on the confessional, if they even have one.
